The Princess of Wales made a series of rare comments about her relationship with Prince William as she joined King Charles at a special reception for Cancer Research.

Kate, 44, was accompanied by the King and Queen Camilla to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the cancer charity at St James's Palace on Tuesday night.

Though Prince William was not present, the Princess was clearly thinking about him and couldn't resist making a few sweet comments about their happy marriage.

She spoke to pop star Ronan Keating, who could be heard oversaying: "Please say hi to William". His wife, Storm Keating, added "he's such a gent", before Ronan said: "Yeah we love him".

A serious conversation

It was an evening close to both Kate and Charles's hearts, as they have been directly impacted by the charity's work, and open about their own battles with the illness.

One moving exchange was with Sebastian Bowen, the widower of the late Dame Deborah James, who passed away from incurable bowel cancer in 2022, aged 40. He told Kate: "I've been thinking about you guys a lot."

Prince William, 43, worked closely with Dame Deborah, who had tirelessly campaigned to raise awareness for bowel cancer.

Sebastian appeared to thank William for having a sympathetic conversation with the couple's two children, to which the Princess replied: "He's good like that."

He said afterwards: "I told her I was incredibly touched that they as a family had been so supportive and thought about them all the time.

"It was deeply touching and moving for me and my family to have had the opportunity to meet them and ongoing support and given to the fund both privately and publicly."

Kate revealed she was in remission from cancer in January 2025 after revealing her diagnosis in 2024. She has since made a slow but steady return to official duties, undertaking her first official engagement abroad in Italy last month.

The King, 77, is still undergoing cancer treatment, but revealed in a December 2025 Stand Up To Cancer video that it is being reduced.

A poignant evening

During the reception, the monarch, who is patron of Cancer Research UK, met with researchers, clinicians, volunteers and partners involved in the charity's prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. He also caught up with high-profile supporters of the charity, including Davina McCall.

Davina told Kate that the King had called her after she announced she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2024, which she had removed before being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025, and later being given the "all clear" in April.

She then returned the favour, showing her support for the monarch by reaching out after hearing about his cancer diagnosis in 2024.

Queen Camilla, wearing a pastel blue coat dress and Chanel heels, spoke to Alistair James about the Bowelbabe Fund and the legacy left by his daughter, Dame Deborah.

Joined by the King, she stopped to watch a Cancer Research UK display, which formed part of the immersive installations showcasing the work of the charity.
