The Prince and Princess of Wales have finally revealed the name of their second dog as they celebrate his first birthday.
They have had Orla since 2020, after their first dog together, cocker spaniel Lupo, which they were given as a wedding present from Kate’s brother James Middleton, died unexpectedly.
The family has now introduced Otto – a brown spaniel from a litter of Orla’s puppies. Their two dogs now have matching names, and are likely very popular at home with Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and Prince Louis, eight.
A picture of Otto looking at the camera was posted by Kensington Palace on social media on Friday with the caption: "Welcome to the family, Otto! 1 today."
Orla gave birth to four puppies last May, and they starred in William’s 43rd birthday photo on social media last June.
"We've got a little puppy, he's only eight months," Kate shared in February. However, his name has been kept under wraps until now.
An anniversary post with a new addition!
Earlier this week, William and Kate shared a holiday snapshot of their family, lying together in the grass in the sunshine, to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.
In the never-before-seen image taken by photographer Matt Porteous in Cornwall, the couple were pictured with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, relaxing barefoot during the Easter break.
Orla and Otto make an appearance next to William in the picture.
The Princess was holding hands with her youngest son, Louis, while William was sitting next to their beloved cocker spaniel Orla, five, and Otto. "It’s one of the puppies from last year," a source told HELLO! at the time.
Royal pets on the screen
Orla joined the Prince during his appearance in Eugene Levy's Apple TV+ series, The Reluctant Traveler, last October. The Prince spoke about his and Kate's previous English Cocker Spaniel, Lupo, who sadly passed away in November 2020.
"So [Orla's] actually the niece of our other dog, Lupo, who sadly we lost in lockdown," William explained to Eugene. The Schitts Creek star responded: "Were you there? When it happened?" to which the Prince said: "Yeah we were all there sadly, it was very sad."
