Although Kate Hudson followed in her parents' star-studded footsteps, acting isn't a topic that dominates their everyday conversations. In fact, it seems they hardly discuss it at all. During an interview with Deadline's The Actor's Side series, Kate shared that she and mom, Goldie Hawn, "never talk about acting".
"We talk about film and we talk about experiences," she said of her mom and stepfather, Kurt Russell. "But my parents, they're not stage parents."
The Song Sung Blue star admitted that her famous family is too "busy" to compare their experiences in the industry. However, that doesn’t mean Goldie isn't supportive of her daughter's acting milestones – she’s always there to cheer her on and makes sure to watch her films.
During the Los Angeles screening for Song Sung Blue on January 13, Kate shared that her mom was so excited about her role in the Neil Diamond tribute band biopic. "She loves the movie," said Kate. "It was so much fun for her to ask me questions about my process."
From working at the Williamstown Theater Festival to taking acting classes, Kate shared that "everything was about craft" when it came to her childhood. "It was always more about me learning my craft versus them trying to give me advice," she added.
Back in January, Goldie told People that she never gets too deep in conversation about acting with her daughter. She shared that they would rather simply "talk a little bit about stuff that we've seen".
"For the most part, we're always talking about the kids. It just is not, 'How's the business going?' I don't do that," she said. "There's a lot of things other in life that are meaningful. Our work is part of what we do and it isn't who we are. Those are two different things."
Song Sung Blue is based on the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, who performed as the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder in the 1980s. Kate stars as Claire Sardina alongside Hugh Jackman, who plays Mike Sardina. The film is directed by Craig Brewer, an American filmmaker best known for Footloose, Hustle & Flow, and Black Snake Moan.
Kate has received a nod in the category of Best Actress for an Academy Award. Her name is alongside Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, Renate Reinsve in Sentimental Value, Emma Stone in Bugonia, and Jessie Buckley in Hamnet.
