Craig Melvin opened up about how airports cause him anxiety during the March 6 episode of the TODAY Show. The topic came up during the Third Hour of the show as the hosts discussed the growing trend of individuals arriving late for their flights.
"I enjoy getting to the airport and just being able to chill, and enjoying a book or watching a show," said Craig. Al Roker then chimed in on the debate and advised viewers of the consequences if they are the last passengers to board the aircraft. "That overhead space, that's money in the bank. You're the last one on, all of a sudden you need to check your bag," he added.
Although the panel shared that they usually travel light and are often only gone for the day, Craig said he still prefers to prioritize having plenty of time at the airport. "I don't like rushing, like if I don't have to rush, I just don't like that, it makes me anxious," he admitted.
Craig's family life
When he's not travelling for work assignments, Craig enjoys vacations with his family. The TODAY host and his wife Lindsay Czarniak met while both working at NBC Washington, with Craig enlisted as a news anchor in 2008 and Lindsay boasting the title of sports anchor. The pair tied the knot in 2011 with a wedding in Washington D.C. – the city where they met – at the Church of the Holy City. They later welcomed their son, Delano, in 2014, and their daughter, Sybil, in 2016.
Craig joined as a regular host on the NBC show following Hoda Kotb's departure in January 2025. He has been part of the team for years, but his permanent position was a huge move.
The news anchor exclusively spoke with us and talked about the learning curve that comes with becoming a big daytime co-host. He expressed: "It's just a lot. There's a lot about the job that you don't really understand or appreciate until you have the job."Craig continued: "Like there are luncheons or meetings or Q&A sessions with different groups and you're like, 'Why is this on the calendar? Like why do we do this?'"
The TV star recalled the moment he understood the show's traditions and expressed: "Oh yeah, the TODAY Show host has done it for 25 years and so you don't wanna be the guy, the first guy who doesn't do it." He added: "It's funny because I'll find myself sometimes in meetings. I'm like, 'Why am I here? Like what purpose am I serving?'"
