While he unfortunately did have to spend the last few weeks of being 94 dealing with recovery from a shoulder surgery after getting injured during a horseback riding session, he's back to spending time with loved ones and unwinding.

Family beach time

Case in point, to mark his birthday, William took to his Instagram page with a pair of recent photos taken by his daughter Lisabeth Shatner.

Lisabeth, 64, is the actor's second of three daughters with his first wife, Gloria Rand, the others being Leslie, 67, and Melanie, 61. He shares a very close bond with his girls, despite his marriage to Gloria only lasting for 13 years, ending in 1969.

In one of the snaps, sitting by the beach, the actor smiled for the camera, beside another in which he's pictured smoking a cigar. "At 95, I'm still smokin'," he quipped in his caption.

"I've learned two things: Never waste a good cigar. Never trust anyone who says you should 'act your age'," he continued, with fans inundating his comment section with birthday wishes as well.

"Happy birthday young fella! May you keep living life to the fullest. Boldly go," one gushed, with another adding: "Happiest of birthdays Captain. Live long and prosper," and a third saying: "I hope I have half your vitality if I reach 95! Happy birthday!!"

Horseback riding and shoulder surgery

Earlier in the month, while attending the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films' 53rd annual Saturn Awards in Burbank, California, the T.J. Hooker star shared the story of how he recently was flung from a horse while riding and had injured his shoulder.

"I ride the horses that can compete in equine skills, which is fast down and ends on a sliding stop," he told the crowd. "And the horse that I owned, I came off."

"And she had a habit of going too far, like six inches to the side," he continued. "And I'm riding it. And I'm ready. And she goes [too fast and sent me flying]."

"I'm not a young stuntman anymore. I started to roll, but hit the dirt with my shoulder. So I wrecked my shoulder," adding that he's set to undergo "new type of shoulder operation called a reverse something or other" a few days later.

The actor later took to his social media page to clarify some reports of a "shattered" shoulder, explaining: "So I understand that tabloids say my shoulder was shattered. Dramatic. Colorful. Completely untrue. It was a routine procedure. I'm so well that tomorrow I'll be in Cleveland at a convention. Remember that tabloids don't let facts get in the way of a good headline."
