On June 10, 1985, New York Magazine famously coined the likes of Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy and Emilio Estevez, plus a couple more, as the Brat Pack, and conflicting feelings on it swiftly followed.
Considered members of the Brat Pack — a play on the Rat Pack of the 1950s and 60s that included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., among others — were typically those with roles in two iconic movies: The Breakfast Club, by John Hughes, and St. Elmo's Fire, by Joel Schumacher, both of which premiered in 1985, when the famed New York Magazine issue was published.
Much of the crew, which also included Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall, were vocal about their dislike of the term coined by the feature's writer, David Blum, who himself has previously expressed his regret about writing the article, after many of the members said the negative connotation that came with the term made them hesitant to ever give into it again, resisting movies that starred their fellow Brat Pack members.
They however came to embrace the term, albeit four decades later, when most of them participated in Brats, a documentary and reflection on the group and the era they came to define, led by Andrew himself, which premiered at the TriBeCa film festival last year.
So, what was the pack up to when they weren't starring in movies together? Demi and Rob may have been each other's love interests in both St. Elmo's Fire and About Last Night, but who were everyone's real-life loves? Find out below.
Demi was born Demi Gene Guynes, and got her famous last name from her first husband Freddy Moore, who she married when she was 18 years old and he was 30, from 1981 to 1985.
She later had a relationship with fellow 1980s star Timothy Hutton, and was engaged to her Brat Pack mate Emilio Estevez. She eventually was married to Bruce Willis from 1987 to 2000, with whom she welcomed three daughters, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, and though they ultimately divorced, they remain good friends to this day. She was lastly married to Ashton Kutcher from 2005 to 2013, and briefly dated chef Daniel Humm in 2022, but as of 2026 is reportedly single.
For almost as long as he has been in the spotlight, Rob has had his wife Sheryl Berkoff by his side. The couple met on a blind date in 1983, and again on the set of Rob's movie Bad Influence (1990), and tied the knot in 1991. They are parents to two sons, Matthew and John.
Emilio dated Mimi Rogers in the early 1980s, before she married Tom Cruise in 1987. He also had a relationship with model Carey Selley, with whom he shares son Taylor and daughter Paloma. He was also married to Paula Abdul from 1992 to 1994; she later shared they divorced because he did not want more children. In 2006, he became engaged to Sonja Magdevski, but the relationship ended some years later.
Andrew married Carol Schneider in 1999, his college sweetheart from two decades prior. They welcomed one son, Sam, who is an actor, before divorcing in 2005. He has been married to Irish writer and director Dolores Rice since 2011, and they share two children, Willow and Rowan.
Molly, who has the most Brat Pack movie appearances, was first married to French writer Valéry Lameignère from 1999 to 2002. In 2007, she married Greek-American writer and book editor Panio Gianopoulos, with whom she shares three children, a daughter, and twins, a boy and a girl.
Ally married actor David Lansbury, nephew of late British actress Angela Lansbury, in 1992, and they share a son, Beckett, born in 1994. They divorced in 2008.
Anthony keeps his personal life largely out of the spotlight, but in 2019, he became engaged to Slovak-Canadian actress Lucia Oskerova, and in June 2023, they welcomed a son together.
Judd Nelson is of course another key member of the Brat Pack, however he has long distanced himself from the group, and the spotlight, and has not publicly disclosed he has married or welcomed any children.
