During Savannah Guthrie's sit-down interview with Hoda Kotb for the Today show on March 26, the TV star got immensely emotional while talking about her mother Nancy Guthrie's tragic kidnapping.
Hoda inquired about whether or not the family "talked about what possibly could have happened [or] what went down?"
Savannah transparently opened up about how her brother Charles Camron Guthrie had an inner knowing about what had taken place, even prior to the investigation department.
Charles' theory
She explained: "My siblings are so amazing. My brother – he spent his career in the military and worked in intelligence and [was] a fighter pilot, and is brilliant, and he saw very clearly right away what this was, and even on the phone when I called him. He knew."
The Today show host continued: "And he said, 'I think she's been kidnapped for ransom.' And I said 'what?' I mean it sounds so like, how dumb could I be? I just didn't want to believe [it]. 'Do you think [it's] because of me?' And he said 'I'm sorry sweetie, but yeah, maybe.' But I knew that." Hoda asked: "You did?"
Savannah candidly shared: "I hope not. I mean we still don't know. Honestly, we don't know anything. We don't know anything, so I don't know that it's because she's my mom and somebody thought: 'Oh that girl…that lady has money. We can make a quick buck.' I mean, that would make sense but – we don't know – but yeah, that's probably [it], which is too much to bear."
She added: "To think that I brought this to her bedside. That it's because of me, and I just say, 'I'm so sorry mommy. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law. I'm just so sorry. I'm so sorry if it is me, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry,'" as she broke down in tears.
How Savannah's family is dealing with the news
Savannah further revealed that her family has been on edge since the kidnapping, and that her children Vale, 11, and Charley, nine, have not taken the situation lightly.
The host shared: "It's so hard with kids. You want to protect them." She explained that during her time in Arizona, her children back in New York would consistently ask: "Mama, any leads? Did you hear anything? Any hope?"
Savannah expressed: "I think that we try to talk to them and try to give them a little more certainty than we have to let them grieve."
Not only were her children deeply affected by the frightful news, but so were Annie, Tommy and their son, who regularly saw Nancy since they live in Arizona.
The TV star added: "In a way this is even so much harder on Annie and Tommy because they're there. And they were there every day for my mom. They made it possible for her to stay in the house which we grew up in."
Savannah is planning to return to the Today show, however, a date has not yet been announced.
