It was announced earlier on Wednesday, March 25 that TODAY will soon air Savannah Guthrie's first sit-down interview since the disappearance of her mom Nancy Guthrie, first reported on February 1.
Savannah, 54, has been absent from NBC's Studio 1A since her mother, 84, was allegedly kidnapped, spending her time with her family (including her two siblings) in Tucson, Arizona, where Nancy was based.
On the latest iteration of TODAY, it was shared that Savannah reunited with her friend and former co-anchor Hoda Kotb for an extended conversation about the 53 days that have passed since then.
The interview in its entirety will air in two parts, on March 26 and then March 27, with a sneak preview shared on the show that included Savannah's tearful appeal for anyone with information to come forward. Watch that snippet below…
Craig Melvin revealed that Hoda and Savannah were able to reunite in person the day prior, March 24, for the interview, although did not confirm whether Savannah returned to New York City for the occasion or Hoda flew down to Tucson (Hoda did host TODAY that morning as usual).
Since Nancy's absence, Savannah did make one memorable return to Rockefeller Plaza earlier this month, when she paid the team behind-the-scenes of TODAY an emotional visit, which was later documented on social media as they all got together to share messages of support and prayers.
NBC News revealed in a statement at the time: "Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her Today colleagues. While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home."
After watching the heartbreaking clip, Craig, Carson Daly and Al Roker checked in on Hoda to see how she was faring watching it back, who reassured them that she was "okay."
"There is a desperation and also a steeliness about Savannah, who is hoping that somebody, whoever this person is, will see something and say something," she told her co-anchors. Hoda noted that the interview will consist of conversations not only about the investigation itself, but also her faith and how she is finding strength in her community to uplift herself and her family.
"I was, sort of, marveling," Hoda continued, "that she was able to sit there with an outfit on, have a conversation, and also have just direct thoughts about what she sees going forward."
A visibly tearful Carson added: "It's gut-wrenching to watch someone you love so much be still post-50 days of this tragic event in this tortured limbo state… yet, to still show so much resilience and grace among it all." They all ended by imploring anyone watching or listening with any information to call in.
