Summer House fans were shocked this morning after two of its stars announced their controversial relationship. Amanda Batula, 34, and West Wilson, 31, shared joint Instagram stories on Tuesday, March 31 confirming their romance after weeks of online speculation.
"We've seen the growing online speculation, so while this is still very new, we wanted to provide some clarity," the statement wrote. "It was never our intention to purposely hide anything. Given the complicated relationship dynamics involved and the scrutiny that comes with being on a reality show, we need a little space to process things privately before speaking on it."
It continued: "We've shown up for each other as friends over the years, through all the highs and lows, and what's developed recently was the last thing either of us expected," adding: "Our connection grew out of a genuine, long-standing friendship, which made it especially important for us to approach this with care."
But, why is this romance so controversial? Here's everything we know about the relationship that is breaking the internet.
Amanda's recent separation announcement
Amanda has been on Bravo's Summer House since 2017, when she starred as a recurring guest. Since then, she's been a central cast member, with her relationship to fellow Summer House star, Kyle Cooke, 43, being heavily featured.
On January 19, 2026, Amanda and Kyle announced their split after more than four years of marriage, writing: "We share this with a heavy heart and kindly ask for your grace and support while we focus on our personal growth and healing."
After their split, Amanda was seen out and about in New York City enjoying her single life, often alongside West. During a March 24 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, West reacted to the speculation that he and Amanda were dating.
"She's single now, and I gotta show her the streets a little bit," he said. "If it's not clear, that's a very important person to me, and I care about her a lot. That's a friend. Hope that's clear."
West's relationships with fellow cast members
West joined Summer House during season eight, which filmed during the summer of 2023. He quickly fell for Ciara Miller, who joined the reality show in 2020 and is close friends with Amanda.
West and Ciara dated for several months in 2023, but broke up after West admitted he could not commit to a serious relationship. At the season eight reunion, Amanda stuck up for Ciara, saying: "There was a part of me that was hopeful this time would be different, but it just seems like a pattern with [West]. You have a really hard time committing."
During season 10, which is currently airing on Bravo, Ciara and West have rekindled their friendship, with the former even admitting "it's very clear that we both miss each other."
Reactions to Amanda and West's announcement
As with all reality stars, the cast took to social media to slyly comment on Amanda and West's announcement. Lindsay Hubbard shared a photo of Love Is Blind contestant Alex Henderson, who was accused during his reunion of lying, with the caption: "The new publicist?"
Amanda's ex-husband, Kyle, shared a selfie of him and Ciara to his Instagram story. Season ten newcomers Mia Calabrese and KJ Dillard both took to social media. Mia posted a photo of Ciara to her Instagram story while KJ shared a clip from the show of him with Ciara and Mia, writing: "I love my big sisters for life."
While Ciara has yet to post anything to social media yet, eagle-eyed fans noticed that she unfollowed both Amanda and West after the statement was shared.
Summer House season 10 reunion details
The tenth season of the Bravo reality show was filmed from July to September 2025 and is currently airing. Bravo has not yet confirmed when the reunion will be filmed, but fans expect it to tape in mid-April, meaning the cast will surely address the controversial relationship.
