Catherine O'Hara's brother has revealed heartbreaking details about her final days before her death on January 30 at 71.
The Schitt's Creek star died at her home in LA following "a brief illness." Her cause of death was later revealed to be a pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer as the underlying reason.
Speaking on his Dreams of Our Loved Ones podcast, Michael P. O'Hara revealed that Catherine "wasn't talking much in the end."
"She didn't really want to talk on the phone... And she didn't live close by, she's in Los Angeles," the Toronto native added.
While he didn't confirm that her declining health was the reason behind her lack of speech, the Mayo Clinic notes that a pulmonary embolism causes shortness of breath and extreme fatigue, which can hinder a person's speech.
Michael went on to share a dream he had about Catherine "a few days" before her death, which he interpreted as a "sort of goodbye."
"Recently, I had a death in the family. Very unexpected and very, very sad," he said.
"I always cherish the times I can meet with a loved one in the dream state. Actually, oddly enough, I had a dream days, a few days before she died, my sister. And I was hugging her, which was really beautiful. And I guess it was sort of a goodbye."
Following her death, Michael had another dream about Catherine. "Since then, I've had a lovely dream where I was visiting her, and she was in a new house, and it was being renovated, and she was really busy choosing furniture and couches," he shared.
"And she said, 'You can sleep here anytime, Michael. You can come over and stay any time.' And it reminded me of when... she was in SCTV [Second City Television] and I was apprenticing at the Windsor Arms Hotel. I would go over and sleep over at her place some nights because she had an extra bedroom."
He continued: "Yeah, pretty cool. But yeah, it was beautiful. She was just so happy and very busy in the other world that she's now in... it's beautiful.
"We all have our own experiences that are related to us and our own deceased loved ones and we're all interconnected, and the love, you know, continues no matter what. They're always with us."
Shortly after her death, the Replica Luxury Handbag Alone star's manager confirmed the news to HELLO! in a statement. "Prolific multi-award-winning actress, writer, and comedian Catherine O'Hara died today (Friday, January 30) at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness," it read.
According to 911 dispatch audio obtained by Page Six, Catherine was having "difficulty breathing" before she was transported to a nearby hospital in a "serious condition." She passed away hours later after returning home.
Catherine is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, a production designer and director, and their two sons, Matthew and Luke.
