Nicole Kidman is showing no signs of slowing down, having taken on the lead role in Scarpetta, a new crime thriller for Amazon Prime Video. She plays Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the iconic character from Patricia Cornwell's bestselling book series. Described as a "gripping, multi-layered thriller," the eight-part series is told across two timelines: from Scarpetta's early career as a Chief Medical Examiner in the late '90s to the present day.
In the latest edition of HELLO!, the actress opened up about the role and shared an insight into her personal life following her divorce from Keith Urban in January. "It's actually a role that first came to me a long time ago," she explained. "I loved the idea of playing her then but the script wasn't quite there. It's taken time for us to get here and to really feel we are doing justice to this truly iconic character Patrica Cornwell created, and the source material.”
She continued: "But there is no method to the madness. There is a want for spontaneity and a desire to always go and do something new. I always want to feel excited because, as you get older, that becomes the most precious thing."
The series centres around medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, who with "skilled hands and an unnerving eye," is determined to serve as the voice of the victims, unmask a serial killer, and prove that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn't also her undoing.
With decades in the spotlight, Nicole also reflected on her successful career. "I just think how lucky I have been and how lucky I still am to be a working actor. I am so grateful to have a job that I love. It's an amazing gift that I have been given," she shared.
Nicole and Keith married in June 2006 after first meeting in 2005, and welcomed two daughters while together, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. In September of 2025, news suddenly broke that the couple had separated after nearly 20 years of marriage, with their divorce finalized just a few months later in January of 2026. "They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent," their marital dissolution agreement read. "They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families."
Despite her hectic career, the actress first and foremost puts her daughters first. "I love to just spend time with my kids. I love to put on my pyjamas. I sound incredibly boring, I know!" said Nicole. "I’m so happy to be here, to be doing what I do and just having fun. I am just grateful, very happy and incredibly blessed."
