There was a touching moment of Hollywood nostalgia this week as Al Pacino and his former partner Beverly D'Angelo were spotted together in a rare and unexpectedly warm reunion, more than two decades after their split.
The pair, who share twins Anton and Olivia, appeared relaxed and at ease as they stepped out for what looked to be a low-key birthday catch-up to celebrate The Godfather actor's 86th. Far removed from red carpets and flashing cameras, the outing felt intimate, almost familial, a reminder that some bonds quietly endure long after a relationship ends.
Al, 86, cut a characteristically understated figure in a long dark coat layered over a simple outfit, topped with a black beanie and his signature sunglasses. A patterned scarf added a touch of effortless flair as he smiled and gestured mid-conversation, clearly in good spirits.
Beverly, 74, matched the laid-back mood in a soft neutral blazer paired with relaxed trousers and a zig-zag patterned scarf. Her silver hair fell naturally around her shoulders, and she carried a tan handbag while holding what appeared to be a drink, embodying an easy, unfussy elegance.
The former couple, who were together from the late 1996 until their split in 2004, have long maintained a respectful co-parenting relationship. Over the years, both have spoken about prioritising their children, navigating life in the spotlight while keeping their family unit grounded.
In an Instagram post celebrating Al's birthday last year, Beverly wrote: "We lived together for seven years, had two children, broke up, but continued steadily on our journey as co parents - and came to share our lives with a deeper kind of intimacy, honesty and acceptance than a 'traditional' relationship would have allowed (for us at least)."
The two actors are still friends, with Beverly telling PEOPLE: "The greatest gift that Al ever gave me was to make me a mother."
Over the years, Al has been linked with several high-profile celebrities, including being in a quiet on-and-off romance with his co-star from those movies, Diane Keaton, which ended by the time they filmed 1990's The Godfather Part III.
He has also been paired up with stars like Jill Clayburgh, Penelope Ann Miller, Tuesday Weld and Marthe Keller. He welcomed his first child, a daughter named Julie Marie (now 36) with acting coach Jan in 1989.
