Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos celebrated their 30th anniversary on May 1. The day was marked with a special episode of LIVE to commemorate the milestone day. "Today is our 30th wedding anniversary," shared Mark. "30 years. We did it!"
"A high-five? The 30th is the high-five anniversary!" said Kelly. "How'd that happen? It wasn’t supposed to work out. Two kids meet on a soap opera…" Mark recalled. Kelly then called their marriage "the smartest, best decision I ever made in my life."
"It was just a thing that was destined [to happen]. Destiny. I mean, 'cause I had a lot of choices," said Mark. "Oh, you wish," replied Kelly.
"It’s funny, if you would have asked me if I wanted to get married, if I thought about getting married, like, maybe a week before I asked you to get married, I’d be like, 'I’m not getting married,'" added Mark. "It was the most ludicrous idea until you asked, and then I was like, ‘Hmmm, okay!'" said Kelly.

Mark shared that their relationship has been "one big adventure ever since," while Kelly said, "I feel like every day is our anniversary, in a weird way."
Kelly and Mark tied the knot in 1996, when they eloped in Las Vegas a year after meeting on the set of the soap opera All My Children. They went on to welcome kids Michael, Lola, and Joaquin together.
To celebrate the special day, HELLO! are taking a look back at Kelly and Mark's love story in photos.
Kelly starred as Hayley Vaughan on the classic soap opera All My Children from 1990-2002, and in 1995, she was joined by a young Mark, who played her on-screen love interest Mateo Santos. They began dating soon after their very first chemistry read on set, and eloped just a year later to Las Vegas in 1996.
The couple previously reflected on their engagement and how it unfolded in a rather unconventional way. "I remember our proposal," recalled Mark, before Kelly added, "Well, I mean, was it a proposal? It was more of an idea. You were like, 'We have the day off from work tomorrow. Should we get married tomorrow?' "
"And you said, 'Ask me when you're serious.' And I said, 'I'm dead serious.' " replied Mark. The ABC host then admitted he's "so glad we didn't have Instagram and that stuff back then," sharing that proposals for social media are "so annoying."
Mark previously admitted that he and Kelly Ripa split just one week before their wedding day during an appearance on the Skinny Confidential podcast. "It's kind of a funny story as we broke up the week before. I broke up with her because I was dumb, and it was the most agonizing week of my life and I just knew I never wanted to feel like that. I've never felt like that in my life," he admitted.
"We ended up back at my place, I lived downtown and I asked her to marry me. She said, 'Ask me when you're serious.' And I said, 'I am dead serious. We have a day off work tomorrow. Let's fly to Vegas and get married.'"
In 2022, Kelly shared that their wedding cost just $179. "$179 for a wedding, including airfare, cause we had miles and we had a canceled trip or something. But $179 in total total with everything," she said at the time. She added that if she and Mark "had to endure a large wedding, the planning and the seating charts and the venue — we would not have made it."
During an interview with People, Kelly shared that she often recycles her "off-the-rack" wedding dress from Barneys New York. "I took the tags off to wear it to our wedding and I wear it all the time now as a beach cover-up," she shared, adding that the piece cost her "a lot of money" at the time.
"I didn’t buy it as a wedding dress. I just bought it because it was really pretty," said Kelly during an episode of LIVE back in 2016. The dress had an under-$200 price tag and featured a sleeveless design with delicate spaghetti straps and a figure-hugging silhouette. The entire gown was adorned with intricate lace detailing and finished with a graceful, floor-sweeping hem.
Michael, the couple's eldest son, currently lives in Brooklyn while working on the production side for Bravo's The Real Housewives of New York and The Real Housewives of New Jersey and has also worked as a production assistant on the sitcom The Goldbergs.
Meanwhile, Joaquin, who is represented by CAA & Untitled, is set to portray the character Colby in Hulu’s upcoming pilot Foster Dade, adapted from Nash Jenkins’ novel Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos.
Lola is currently pursuing a career in music in London. She made her debut performance in London at The Lower Third, a multi-space music and cocktail venue on Denmark Street in Soho. Kelly spoke to us about the show and how proud she felt of her daughter. "We are beside ourselves. She's been working so hard and her hard work paid off and guess what? We pulled off the ultimate surprise," she shared.
"She didn't know we were here and we wanted to wait until it was all over to surprise her. We didn't want to make her nervous."
Lola also spoke to us about her surprise over her parents' attendance. "I cried because I didn't know they were coming!" added Lola. "You saw my reaction!"
Mark joined LIVE! officially in 2023 following Ryan's departure. Ryan left the show due to the demands of traveling back and forth between his home in Los Angeles and the studio in New York, as well as his desire to focus on other projects.
Kelly has previously revealed that she and Mark were initially hesitant about sharing the screen together. In an interview on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Kelly admitted that Mark had a surprising reaction when he was first offered the permanent role on ABC. "It was really about convincing Mark," she explained. "Because initially when they came to Mark, he flat out refused."
"I also thought that was kind of a bad idea," she shared. "I was like, a husband and a wife hosting a morning show is different from a husband and wife acting together or producing something together."
"The audience really responds to Mark because Mark has a gives zero [expletive] attitude," Kelly said. "And the audience loves that. There’s no artifice with him. If he hates something, he hates it out loud no matter how much we’re supposed to love it. And when he thinks something is dumb, he says it no matter how much we’re supposed to pretend to like whatever the thing is."
She continued: "We have been together for 31 years and we are not afraid to express ourselves publicly, there is no artifice," she added. "We’re not worried about protecting each other’s feelings. We both just say what is on our minds and I guess people find that relatable."
