David Kendall, the creative force behind some of television’s most beloved coming-of-age moments, has died at the age of 68.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed on Saturday, May 2, via the Pod Meets World podcast’s Instagram account, run by former Boy Meets World stars Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle, and their tribute made clear just how profound his impact was, both on screen and behind the scenes.

"To say that David Kendall was instrumental in the creation of Boy Meets World would be an understatement," they wrote. "He directed, wrote and executive produced our show, but also helped mold some of TV’s most memorable sitcoms, from Growing Pains to Hannah Montana."

For a generation of viewers who grew up alongside Cory, Topanga and Shawn, Kendall wasn’t just a name in the credits, he was part of the magic that made the series feel so real, so heartfelt and so enduring.

Serving as showrunner during its pivotal second and third seasons, he helped shape the tone and storytelling that would cement the show’s place in television history.

But his legacy stretched far beyond a single series. Throughout his decades-long career, David played a key role in developing some of the industry’s brightest young stars.

From early collaborations with Austin Butler, Zendaya, Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, to his work on hit shows including Hannah Montana, Victorious and Big Time Rush, his influence quietly echoed across generations of pop culture.

For those who knew him best, however, his impact was deeply personal. "We are devastated to lose such an important person in our lives, both professionally and personally," the Pod Meets World hosts continued, their words capturing a grief felt far beyond Hollywood. They encouraged fans to think of David the next time they revisit the show’s early seasons, a poignant reminder that his creative fingerprints are woven into every moment.
