9-1-1 will never fail to keep fans on their toes.

At the end of last season, viewers were left devastated with the shocking exit of Peter Krause, whose character Bobby Nash was killed off towards the end of the eighth season.

Now we're nearing the end of season nine — the finale airs Thursday, May 7 at 8 p.m. EST — and it's the fate of Bobby Nash's wife Athena Grant-Nash, played by Angela Bassett, that fans are now worried about.

During the penultimate episode of the hit ABC series, Detective Hooks, who is played by Josh Stamberg, convinced Athena to accompany him to make arrests in the trafficking case, however things took a turn for the worse when he shot at her.

Angela, speaking on Good Morning America the morning of finale night, kept mum on the fate of her character, noting it "remains to be seen" whether Athena will come out of season nine alive.

"I wish I could say," she added, before at least emphasizing: "But Athena is strong."

9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear meanwhile teased earlier this year that he is both "excited and scared" about what's going to happen to Athena, telling Decider about the season's last episodes: "I'm excited for all the characters, actually. I can't really spoil where we're going in the last three episodes, but I'm also excited and scared about what's going to happen to Athena."

"I think it’s going to be a really thrilling story," he maintained, also noting that now that 9-1-1 has been renewed for a milestone 10th season, he is "going to start a story here at the end of this season that’s going to carry over into next season."

Following Bobby's devastating season eight death and Peter's departure from 9-1-1 addressed the move in an emotional Instagram tribute in April 2025, sharing a sweet photo featuring him in which both of them are smiling and embracing each other, dressed up as their characters. "For eight seasons, this kind, funny, compassionate, talented actor became not only my trusted colleague, but also a dear friend," she wrote at the time.

"#peterkrause as #bobbynash helped to introduce @911onabc to the homes and hearts of fans around the world," she continued, and acknowledged: "I know this is hard for all of you. It's hard for us, too."

"Peter's Bobby Nash will be missed but his character will never be forgotten. He is forever a part of our family," Angela maintained, and further wrote: "We should all give Peter a lot of love as he expands beyond 'the 118' and into all adventures that await him. Love you, my friend. Athena will never be the same."

Her co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt also paid tribute, stating in an Instagram Story at the time: "I have no words," writing that she "couldn't say goodbye because you are the best," and: "I love you, Peter. Thanks for always being a light, and for your hugs that could change a day for the better every time."
