Dennis Quaid has filed to stop paying child support for his 18-year-old twins, Thomas and Zoe, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Kimberly Buffington.
The former couple married in 2004 and endured a brief separation in 2012 before reconciling shortly thereafter. The pair then filed for divorce for the final time in 2016.
As per their divorce agreement, Dennis had been paying $13,750 in child support each month to Kimberly, set to last until "a child completes 12th grade (if still under 19 and a full-time high school student) or reaches the other enumerated endpoints, whichever occurs first."
Zoe graduated from high school on May 23, and Thomas will have his ceremony on June 3, prompting Dennis to request an end to the payments on May 20.
The 72-year-old, who was required to pay Kimberly an additional amount each year if he made more than $1.3 million, asked that the bonus be "prorated to each child's graduation date rather than using Dennis' full-year 2026 income".
The duo announced their 2016 divorce in a statement to TMZ, which read: "The decision was made amicably and with mutual respect toward one another. We will always remain great friends and devoted partners in raising our children."
They shared joint physical and legal custody of Zoe and Thomas, with Kimberly caring for the twins 75 percent of the time and Dennis 25 percent, due to his busy filming schedule. While Dennis keeps his family life under wraps, he did open up to Fox News about the fear he felt when the Texas floods hit Camp Mystic in July 2025 while Zoe was working as a camp counselor nearby.
"Hill County in Texas is a magical place, especially for children going to camp there. It's a cherished memory you carry with you all your life," he explained. "My daughter was a few miles away from [Camp] Mystic, further north. Thankfully, their camp was okay."
"I heard about this as I was going to bed that night, and I tried to call her because I knew she was up there," he added. "I knew it wasn't near where the floods were, but I wasn't able to talk to her till the next day. I didn't really get a lot of sleep that night."
Dennis has been married four times, firstly to P.J. Soles from 1978 to 1983, then to Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001. The pair welcomed their son, Jack Quaid, in 1992 before going their separate ways.
He was then married to Kimberly from 2004 to 2018, before tying the knot with Laura Savoie in 2020. "Laura's the love of my life," the actor told People. "She came along, and we have a bond with one another that I never had with anybody else before. It's a joy of life that we share together."
