Mary J. Blige reveals Halftime Show advice for Bad Bunny


Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer who won the coveted Album of the Year prize at the Grammys in February

Mary J. Blige threw her support behind Super Bowl Halftime Show performer Bad Bunny ahead of his historic concert at the iconic NFL game on Sunday. The Grammy winner, who performed in the Halftime Show in 2001 and 2022, shared with People that she didn't believe the Puerto Rican star needed any advice for the big day.

"I don't think Bad Bunny needs any tips. He performs for billions and trillions of people. He's a great performer," she said.

"He's gonna body it. He's gonna murder it. I just say blessings to you. Bad Bunny, kill it," she added. Mary first appeared on the prestigious stage in 2001 alongside Aerosmith, *NSYNC, Britney Spears and Nelly, in Tampa, Florida.

She returned in 2022 to perform alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak in California, where she sang "Family Affair" and "No More Drama".

"I was excited and nervous all at the same time, and my goal was to get it done and be Mary J. Blige, you know, to the a millionth power," she told People of her performance. Bad Bunny is set to perform his biggest hits at the game on Sunday, just a week after he won the coveted Album of the Year prize at the Grammys for Debí Tirar Más Fotos.

While his appointment as the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer drew heavy criticism from conservative voices, several A-listers have shown their support for the 31-year-old.

Madonna, who performed at the Halftime Show in 2012, shared a photo of herself ahead of the Super Bowl with the caption: "Go Bad Bunny," while Katy Perry, who headed the show in 2015, wrote on X: "You got this @sanbenito remind the world what the real American dream looks like."

Jennifer Lopez took to Instagram to share a photo of herself with Bad Bunny in a show of support. "@badbunnyPR…sending you all the love, positivity and the biggest hug in the world! We are all behind you tonight. I know that you are going to kill it!" she wrote.

Jennifer also shared a tribute to Bad Bunny on social media

"I am here with you the way you were there with me!" she added before ending in Spanish: "Hit it hard, Benito! Like only you can!" Jennifer performed at the 2020 Super Bowl alongside Shakira, a Colombian pop legend best known for her hit "Hips Don't Lie".

"It's about time," she told Variety in 2025. "I remember when we did ours that even having part of our set in Spanish was a bold move…Acceptance of Spanish-language music as part of the mainstream has come so far from when I started."

The mother of two added that she was "so proud" of Bad Bunny for performing on "the biggest stage in the world" as he "represents not only Latin culture but also how important Spanish language music has become on a global scale and how universal it has become. It's the perfect moment for a performance like this. I can't wait to watch it."
