Indira Varma is back on our screens in the BBC's hit surveillance thriller, The Capture, which returns with its highly anticipated third season on Sunday. The 52-year-old actress is set to play BBC journalist Khadija Khan opposite leading star Holliday Grainger, who leads the cast as tenacious detective Rachel Carey.
The Olivier award-winning actress is a regular fixture on the small screen thanks to her recent roles in ITV's thriller Coldwater and the second season of the BBC's hit drama, The Night Manager. The Rada-trained star, who made her screen debut in the 1996 film Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, is also famed for her roles in Game of Thrones, Patrick Melrose and Obsession.
But did you know that Indira's husband is also famous?
Who is Indira Varma's husband?
Indira is married to fellow actor Colin Tierney.
Colin is perhaps best known for playing CS Gerry Rydell in DCI Banks and Ronan Truman in Coronation Street. The actor boasts an impressive list of TV credits, including Vera, Endeavour, Until I Kill You, Lockerbie: A Search for Truth and Mr Bates vs the Post Office.
Indira and Colin's family life
Indira and Colin met in 1997 during a National Theatre production of Othello, which toured various theatres around the world, including in Warsaw, Tokyo, Hong Kong and New York.
Indira eventually moved into Colin's flat "above a knocking shop in Muswell Hill," in north London before they bought a flat near Turnpike Lane.
The couple, who still live in London, share a teenage daughter, Evelyn, who was born in 2007.
Speaking to The Times in 2014, Indira revealed that the couple's home was burgled when she was heavily pregnant with Evelyn.
"It was horrendous — we love to travel, and they took our computer full of photographs, and did a poo in the toilet," she said. "We wondered if we should keep it for evidence."
Indira's upbringing and career
Indira was brought up in Bath by an Indian father and Swiss mother. In an interview with The Telegraph, the actress said she experienced racism as a child. "Mildly – name calling here and there," she said. "And I watched people patronise my parents quite a lot because they both had accents."
Indira attended Bath's Musical Youth Theatre with The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln, whom she starred alongside in ITV's Coldwater last year. During an interview with HELLO! ahead of the show's September release, Andrew said he had "always wanted to work" with Indira, having known her since they were teenagers.
After training at Rada, Indira landed her first role in the racy 1996 film Kama Sutra. From there, she landed a string of films and TV series, including Bride and Prejudice, The Whistle-Blower and Torchwood.
Her most notable roles include Niobe Vorena in the historical drama Rome, Zoe Luther in the BBC's thriller Luther and Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones.
The Capture series three arrives on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on Sunday 8 March.
