Jamie Bell has been capturing viewers' attention in his latest stint as the timid Niall in the BBC's dark drama Half Man, opposite Richard Gadd's Ruben.

While some viewers may be discovering Jamie for the first time, the 40-year-old actor has been in the industry for most of his life, first finding fame at just 14, when he played the titular character, Billy, in Billy Elliot. From there, he went on to star in a range of TV and film projects, including Fantastic Four, Rocketman and All of Us Strangers.

In 2012, Jamie married Evan Rachel Wood, with whom he welcomed a son, Jack, in 2013. The couple parted ways a year later, in 2014, and Jamie went on to wed his current partner, actress Kate Mara, in 2017.

While the couple tend to keep their private life out of the spotlight, their careers in the entertainment industry and their meeting at a screen test formed the foundation of their relationship. Over the years, the pair have shared occasional glimpses into their life together. Keep scrolling to find out more…

Like many romances in the acting world, Kate and Jamie's relationship first blossomed at work when they starred opposite each other in Fantastic Four alongside Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan. Speaking on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2017, Kate revealed that they "fell in love on the press tour".

Reflecting on their early days together, Jamie also told The Standard in 2017: "There was an instant connection, like we'd known one another forever. It was obvious very quickly that we were going to get married."

But this wasn't actually the first time the pair had officially met. In fact, they had moved in similar circles for years, with their first meeting taking place during a screen test around 2005.

Kate and Jamie were first reported to be dating in autumn 2015, before making their public debut together at the Met Gala in May 2016.

After their instant connection, the two actors tied the knot in an intimate ceremony opposite their LA home in 2017. Kate shared the news with a picture of them kissing on Instagram, captioning it: "Nuptials."

Appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jamie shared: "We had a lovely wedding. It was very small and intimate. There [were] only about 60, 70 people there, which was lovely. We actually got married right across the street from our house."

Two years later, the pair welcomed a baby girl in May 2019, followed by a baby boy in November 2022. While they've kept their children's names private, Kate shared the news on Instagram, writing: "We had a baby a couple weeks ago… Here are her feet."

For their second child, she echoed the sentiment in a similar post, writing: "Had a baby a week ago. Here are his feet."

Jamie and Kate's life off-screen

Despite their careers in the public eye, Kate and Jamie tend to keep their relationship out of the spotlight. Speaking to Shape in 2018, Kate said: "I'm very protective of our marriage."

With both actors frequently travelling for work, Kate admitted that maintaining their relationship takes effort from both sides.

"We have a rule that we will never go longer than two weeks without seeing each other," she explained. "Even if we have to spend all day traveling to have just 24 hours together, it's worth it in order to have a strong relationship."
