Relationship

Diane is currently in a relationship with producer and commissioning editor Ben Caudell, who works for the BBC. Ben has worked on the likes of Peep Show, Charlie Brooker's Wipe and Alternative Election Night. He has also worked on the star's smash sitcom, Mandy, which Diane has been starring in since 2019.

The couple have decided against having children, with Diane telling The Observer in 2020: "I've never wanted children for a split second. The pain, the expense, the hassle… I can't see any advantages. Then I work on Motherland and feel vindicated. People say: 'Yeah but who'll look after you in your old age?' What? Are you only having kids to be your carers?!"

She'd previously confessed in a separate interview: "Occasionally, people come up to me with kids and they'll say, 'Seriously, don't have them. They ruin your life'. But even if they didn't say that, I've made my mind up now, and I'm with someone who doesn't want kids as well, which is glorious. It's really good luck."

Diane and Ben have lived together since 2017, and speaking to The Guardian at the time, Diane joked: "He lives in Bloomsbury, so I've fallen on my feet. It's very near a bin yard where he lives, mind. Perilously near a bin yard. Not vineyard – a bin yard. But still, I do swan around a bit. I've been known to swan around. Why not? Could be dead next week."

Diane's love life before Ben is less clear, but she confessed during an appearance on Would I Lie to You? that she dumped an ex-boyfriend because of the way he fell down the stairs.

Famous relatives

Although Diane is the daughter of a physiotherapist and a stay-at-home mum, the comedian is still distantly related to several Hollywood films, including Julie Goodyear, Frank Finlay and Jack Wild.

In her 2020 interview with The Observer, she revealed: "My dad died last year but there were a few actors on his side of the family: Julie Goodyear, Frank Finlay and Jack Wild. What a dynasty. We're like the Redgraves. Julie's got a touch of the Mandys, actually. Maybe I could cast her as Mandy's mum."

Julie was known for her portrayal of the larger-than-life barmaid

Julie is best known for her stint on Coronation Street as barmaid Bet Lynch. The actress appeared in the role for over 20 years and nearly racked up 2,000 episodes before making her final appearance in the ITV soap back in 2003.

Frank made his acting debut back in 1962 when he appeared in Life for Ruth. The actor also featured in Othello, Casanova, The Return of the Soldier and The Pianist. Frank, who died in 2016 at the age of 89, won a BAFTA in 1974 for Play of the Month and received a nomination for an Oscar thanks to Othello.

Jack is best known as the Artful Dodger

Meanwhile, Jack rocketed to fame back in 1968 when he played the Artful Dodger in Oliver!, a role that saw him nominated for an Oscar aged just 16. Jack also appeared in Flight of the Doves, The Pied Piper, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Basil. Sadly, in 2001, he was diagnosed with oral cancer, an illness that he put down to his drinking and smoking habits. He died at the age of 53 from the illness in March 2006.
