The Duchess of Edinburgh has a fabulous wardrobe of classy summer dresses, structured coats and killer heels – and a certain pair are her secret style weapon.

Earlier this month, Susie Hasler, a colour expert and award-winning personal stylist who runs Styled By Susie, broke down which season in colours the British royal ladies are, explaining that Sophie, 61, is a spring as she looks so radiant in clear, uplifting shades. However, Susie also highlighted Sophie's ability to wear understated neutrals – and her flesh-hued Jimmy Choo heels have become her staple shoe.

Sophie's secret style weapon

Sophie has nailed finishing a tasteful daytime or evening look with the luxury fashion house's 'Rosalia 65 Pumps in Ballet Pink Patent'. The pearl-adorned kitten heels made an appearance in October 2024 when she attended a 5 RIFLES Replica Luxury Handbagcoming Parade at Picton Barracks in Bulford.

Here, they added an extra polished touch to a pink and khaki floral dress by Erdem, the pointed toe pairing perfectly with her A-line skirt to create a flattering vintage silhouette. Later, in March 2025, Sophie used the understated pumps to add a feminine feel to a powder blue power suit while attending a UK government and European Parliament Intergroup on Children's Rights.

Sophie's style agenda revealed

It is her ability to integrate neutral staple items, like her favourite designer heels, into her outfits that is her greatest sartorial strength. "While she excels in brighter hues, she can also wear the gentler end of her palette beautifully, colours like taupe, light camel and warm neutrals that still hold a hint of sunshine," Susie told us.

Sophie is a pro at balancing neutrals with pops of colour

"She looked amazing on Christmas Day 2022 in a cream coat and matching hat. These tones never drain her; instead, they enhance her natural freshness and optimism, making her one of the most quietly joyful dressers in the royal family."

The gingerbread-toned Gianvito Rossi Piper knee-high boots added an extra warm touch to her oatmeal-coloured wrap dress in 2025. Sophie elevated a knit look in how she wore a figure-skimming dress to open the new community hub at The Lighthouse Guildford.

Sophie's 2023 Trooping dress showed her ability to make a statement in a quiet colour

In June 2023, Sophie ditched her boots and coats and proved her ability to wear neutrals at a summer event. While making an appearance at Trooping the Colour, the monarch's birthday parade, she wowed in off-white in Beulah London's 'Yahvi' dress with bell sleeves and added a flower-adorned hat.

In March 2023, Sophie joined Prince Edward at the 2023 Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey. She looked straight from the 1960s (in the best way possible) in her cream Proenza Schouler coat dress, a pillbox hat by Jane Taylor, and her Valextra handbag.

As Susie rightly points out, Sophie looked particularly elegant on Christmas Day four years ago. She opted for a camel-hued wrap coat by Harris Wharf with caramel-toned leather knee-high boots by L.K. Bennett and a fedora to match. Who said the festive season has to equal garish green and red?
