The Duchess of Edinburgh is known for her flattering day dress collection, but on 5 March, the wife of Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh switched it up in a power suit.
Dressing to impress at the DEBRA Global EB Task Force Event at Hever Castle in Kent, Sophie, 61, opted for a powder blue set designed by former Spice Girl turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham.
The wide-leg, subtly flared trousers featured a high waistline to create a leg-lengthening effect and patch packets on the front for extra decoration. As identified by Royal British Fashion on Instagram, she also wore the matching 'Alina' blazer in the shade 'Bluebell', which was single-breasted and worn unbuttoned to prevent coming across as too serious.
© GettyAppearing at the event, which supported the national charity for people living with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), also known as Butterfly Skin, Sophie teamed her suit with a ditsy floral blouse, the 'Monday' style by Penelope Chilvers.
Drawing out the light brown hues of the flowers in her blouse, Sophie, who is the dedicated Royal Patron of DEBRA, added an array of brown accessories, including the 'Zadie 85 Ankle Boots in Clay Suede' by Jimmy Choo, and a video from the event revealed that she carried the 'Oskan Moon Shoulder Bag' by Isabel Marant in a rich caramel shade.

It seems the suit is Sophie's staple piece to take her into spring and away from the heavy wool looks of winter – and it is working for her.

"Her suits combine sharp structure with a distinctly feminine silhouette," fashion stylist Leanne Jones tells us. "The brightness of Sophie's suit is particularly striking for the season, and in a colour that complements her complexion; she is a spring in colour analysis, and these types of shades work well for her."

- The key is balance, so if the suit is bold, keep the supporting pieces understated.
- A white, ivory or oyster blouse works particularly well, paired with similarly toned shoes or soft metallics such as gold or champagne.
- When the suit is this vibrant, it should be the piece doing most of the talking.
"Another approach, if you’re feeling more confident, is to echo the suit’s colour elsewhere in the outfit," she adds. "Sophie does this cleverly with the detailing on her Penelope Chilvers blouse, which picks up the bluebell tones of the suit. When wearing bright tailoring, fit and proportion are also crucial, and a well-cut blazer that defines the waist and trousers that fall cleanly will ensure the look feels sophisticated rather than overwhelming."

It seems Sophie is joining the likes of the Princess of Wales in favouring Victoria Beckham for a suited and booted moment. In January 2026, the duchess visited the University of Surrey in the same suit as the one she wore to the DEBRA event, but in a flattering forest green shade.
