Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has returned to the United States, reaffirming that fashion can be the most powerful diplomatic tool.
Following King Willem-Alexander's participation in the Bilderberg Conference this past weekend in Washington, D.C., the Dutch royal couple landed in Philadelphia to kick off a working visit that promises to strengthen the foundations of a historic and strategic relationship, which will also take them to Florida.
This is not an isolated event, but rather part of a roadmap that already took them to Texas and California in 2022, and to New York and Georgia in 2024 , solidifying the United States as an indispensable ally in matters of security, innovation, and prosperity. In her first public appearance of the trip, the Dutch queen surprised everyone with a look featuring shimmering green stones.
Queen Máxima dazzles in green with her first look in the United States
For her first appearance in Philadelphia, Máxima chose to showcase Dutch talent, selecting a design by Jan Taminiau, one of the most illustrious names in Dutch fashion. Taminiau, incidentally, presented his latest collection in Madrid, modeling it with the daughters of his most loyal clients.
The ensemble, a luminous emerald green suit with a matching shawl, stands out for its delicate beadwork and sparkling stones. This isn't the first time we've seen this design; Queen Máxima wore it in 2017 during a meeting with the Single Supermom organization, although she accessorized it quite differently for this occasion.
Máxima previously paired the Jan Taminiau look with comfortable black heeled boots, the ideal footwear for dressing elegantly on rainy winter days, and her memorable beetle brooch. It's a geometric design with an antique gold base, adorned with amber-toned stones that resemble the insect's wings. To this day, she hasn't worn it again.
Today, however, the royal opted for classic accessories. While her emerald beaded outfit doesn't need many embellishments to impress, she added diamond stud earrings, classic black pumps by Gianvito Rossi, a green and black clutch with a metallic finish by Natan, a ring with a large green stone, and a bracelet of gold links and colored stones.
Clues about dinner with Donald Trump
The tour, which will also take them to the capital, Washington, D.C., and the state of Florida, will also serve to highlight the close relationship between the United States and the Kingdom's Caribbean region, a bond that goes far beyond economic ties to delve into cultural and historical aspects.
With this first look, Máxima has not only kicked off an intense commercial and political agenda, but has also demonstrated once again that her style is a bridge between European tradition and the international projection of the Netherlands.
Between meetings on innovation and culture, the King and Queen will emphasize that cooperation within NATO and strong transatlantic ties are more fundamental than ever to guaranteeing a secure and prosperous future for both nations.
On tonight's agenda is a dinner with President Donald Trump at the White House, and the mystery of what Máxima will wear for this important occasion seems to have been solved, according to the Dutch Royal Family blog Mode Koningin Maxima.
The blog reports that upon her arrival at the airport, Máxima was spotted carrying a garment bag from the brand Me + EM. In the summer of 2025, Máxima purchased a gold tweed ensemble bearing this label, consisting of a jumpsuit and jacket, and debuted it at the United Nations General Assembly in late September.
Since then, the jacket has made a few appearances, while the jumpsuit has remained tucked away in her wardrobe, awaiting its moment to shine once more. Could today be the day?
