Queen Rania flew under the radar on Wednesday as she and her sister Dina Al-Yassin were spotted browsing in a children's toy shop at the Swefieh Village shopping centre in Amman.

The wife of King Abdullah, who was presumably shopping for her little granddaughters, Princess Iman and Amina Thermiotis, was seen wearing a chic take on a casual jeans outfit. According to Royal Fashion Police on Instagram, Rania recycled her 'Margo-X' barrel-leg jeans from Closed.

The trendy denim featured not only the barrel-shaped leg (this season's must-have style of jeans), but also a cinched buckle-adorned waistband, which looked straight out of the 2000s. She added a slinky turtleneck by Dries Van Noten, and the real sartorial flair came in how Rania chose two clashing check prints.

Her top came in a blue and soft pink check, while her heels, the incredible £695 'BB 105 Pumps' by the legendary Manolo Blahnik, came in a royal blue tartan design.

Adding the finishing touches, Rania wore Ralph Masri's beautiful £5,164 'Pink Sapphire Modernist' earrings, as well as the 'Small Cobble Intrecciato Leather Tote' by Bottega Veneta. Even for a low-key outing, Rania certainly brought her sartorial A-game.

What does a stylist think?

"Queen Rania's look works because it's incredibly disciplined in its proportions. Barrel jeans are inherently directional; they add volume through the leg, so the success here comes from how she reins that in with a sleek, close-fitting top and a clearly defined waist," stylist Oriona Robb tells us.

"What's also notable is the level of polish. She hasn't styled this casually; the heels, the controlled colour palette, and the refined finish elevate the denim entirely. It shifts the jeans from weekend wear into something far more intentional and fashion-led, which is exactly how to approach this shape at any age, but particularly in your 50s, where balance and refinement become everything."

If you are also a lady in your 50s looking to rock barrel-leg jeans like Rania, read Oriona's expert tips below before making your purchase…

  1. Anchor the look with structure – always pair with something tailored or fitted on top to control volume.
  2. Use heels strategically – a pointed toe or slim heel elongates and counteracts the width of the leg.
  3. Stick to a cohesive palette – tonal or neutral dressing refines the look and avoids visual clutter
  4. Prioritise fabric weight – structured denim holds shape and looks more elevated than soft, slouchy styles.
  5. Be intentional with scale – if the jeans are voluminous, keep accessories and outerwear sleek and streamlined.

Queen Rania's week of bold looks

Trousers with eye-catching silhouettes are a mainstay in Rania's wardrobe. The royal proved just that on 21 April when she stepped out solo to meet a group of young Jordanian entrepreneurs in Jabal Al Weibdeh.

She rocked a workwear take on cargos with the Max Mara canvas style with cinched ankles. They were teamed with an embroidered white shirt, as well as more designer accessories – the  £1,100 '85mm Antiqued Leather Pumps' by Prada and the £240 'Lenglen Pleated Shoulder Bag' by Lacoste.
