The Pitt is one of the most popular medical dramas on TV at the moment, and season two is set to introduce two exciting new guest stars – including Noah Wyle's real-life actress wife.

The Emmy award-winning series returned to screens on 8 January, and its leading star Noah, who plays Dr Michael 'Robby' Robinavitch, will be joined by his wife Sara Wyle (Californication, Nip/Tuck, Leverage: Redemption), who takes on the role of patient Ashley Davis.

Meanwhile, The West Wing actress Mary McCormack, who starred alongside Noah in ER from 2003 to 2006, will also guest star as neurosurgeon Dr Linda Conley. Both actresses will make their debut in episode 13 of season two, which lands on HBO Max on 2 April.

Season one of the medical drama, which first aired in January 2025, proved a huge success with audiences, earning a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and receiving 13 Emmy nominations. Noah Wyle took home the award for Best Lead Actor, while Katherine LaNasa won Best Supporting Actress.

What happens in The Pitt season 2?

The Pitt picks up several months after the events of the first season and begins over the Fourth of July weekend.

The official synopsis reads: "The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today's America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh."

Teasing what other cast members viewers can expect, showrunner R Scott Gemmill exclusively told Best Quality Designer Handbag : "There are some people who might not be seen until later on in the season because of commitments.

"We're very encouraging for people to do whatever they can or want to do, so if they want to do something else or they have another opportunity, I always say, 'Take advantage of this moment and the open doors, and we can always find a way to bring you back.'"

Meanwhile, Fiona Dourif, who plays Dr Cassie McKay, teased: "What I think is better about season two is that it has gore that I wasn't expecting. I think it's gorier, and it's funnier. It's an even sharper, higher roller coaster.

We were all scared that we weren't going to be able to match season one which was such a runaway success! But then I saw the second episode of season two, and I was like, 'Oh, it's funny!'"
