Nicole Richie's daughter, Kate, has undergone a permanent change to her appearance as she revealed her new back tattoo. The 18-year-old took to Instagram on February 9 to show off the new ink that pays tribute to her famous mom.
The post featured Kate striking a pose in a figure-hugging gold dress against a dark wood–adorned bar. The backless design revealed a delicately sketched angel tattoo on her upper back, seemingly echoing her mother's own pair of inked wings.
Kate stunned in the gold dress, which showcased a bodycon silhouette, a plunging neckline, and intricate butterfly-appliqué detailing on the open back. Her dark raven locks were left down in a sleek, straight style while her makeup oozed soft glam, courtesy of a smoky eye, a pinch of blush, and a glossy lip. Her back tattoo is a clear tribute to her mom and it seems Kate is morphing into a mini-me of Nicole.
"They know everything I did," Nicole previously admitted of her kids. "I knew before I had them that I was going to have to be transparent with them about who I was. And I've actually found freedom in that. I didn’t want my kids having some big discovery about me. I've always been very open and honest with my kids and hope that they are open and honest with me."
The post marks the first photographs Kate has shared of herself since she changed her name amid her 18th birthday in January. Nicole's daughter was born Harlow Winter Kate, but recently changed her name on social media to just her middle name, Kate.
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden ushered in their daughter's big day with an emotional tribute on Instagram. Nicole shared a short message that revealed Harlow no longer goes by her first name.
"18 years of you @katemaddennn," Nicole wrote, to which Joel commented: "That's my girl," and his twin brother, Benji Madden, added: "How to make a grown man cry!! love you Kate! You’re a bad ass! Never forget it! Happy 18!!"
Back in 2008, the couple opened up to People about why they named their daughter Harlow. "I wanted a hippie name and he wanted a more biblical name," she told the outlet, and explained her husband is a fan of actress Jean Harlow while she liked the model Shalom Harlow. The Good Charlotte rocker added: "Harlow's cool because it feels like a classic name."
It seems Kate's 18th year is all about change, as she recently swapped her natural honey-hued hair for long, glossy black tresses. Nicole's daughter isn't new to bold transformations as she's previously experimented with striking pink locks.
