Michelle Obama isn't afraid to experiment with her look, as she recently proved when she showed off 10 new piercings.
The former first lady, 62, revealed during the latest episode of her IMO podcast that she had her ears pierced 10 times "in one sitting."
While her brother and co-host, Craig Robinson, didn't fail to immediately notice her new look, Michelle revealed that it took her husband, Barack Obama, three whole days before he spotted her new piercings.
"What I've learned is that you tried to get your ears pierced and thought I didn't notice. And I see you got all these new piercings in your ear," Craig told his sister before she explained the reason behind her new ear piercings.
"I have always thought about getting some extra piercings in my ear and just never got around to it," she said. "I had a second [piercing] hole that I had got before I had kids. But then I just got lazy and stopped putting an earring in it."
Michelle continued: "But nowadays, the young people in my life are doing more piercings. There's just more beautiful adornment. You see more of a cluster, a constellation, with twinkles," she added, showing off her new jewelry.
When Craig asked how many she had, Michelle explained: "I was going in for a few," before she told the piercer: "'Oh, put one there and put one [there]. Oh yeah, let's try one there.'
"So in one sitting, I've got 10 piercings," she added, as Craig joked: "Ouch," before Michelle reassured him: "[It] wasn't bad at all."
Revealing her husband's priceless reaction, Michelle recalled: "Barack, [it] took him a couple of days. He was like, 'You haven't had your hair up, you've had your hair down.' And I was like, 'I don't know. I like sleep with you every night, dude, you know?'"
Barack and Michelle met in June 1989, when the former joined the law firm Sidley Austin. Michelle, then Michelle Robinson, was his senior advisor for his first three months and declined his initial offers to date.
But she soon agreed, and their first date was a trip to the ice cream parlor Baskin-Robbins. "I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate. We clicked right away…by the end of the date, it was over…I was sold," Barack told O Magazine.
The building now has a plaque outside commemorating the moment "President Barack Obama first kissed Michelle Obama."
They married in 1992 and have since welcomed two daughters; on July 4, 1998, Michelle gave birth to Malia Ann Obama, and Natasha Obama, who goes by Sasha, was born on June 10, 2001.
The couple isn't afraid of public declarations of love, and in January, Barack paid a loving tribute to his wife on her 62nd birthday.
"Happy birthday to the woman who lights up every room she walks into. I love you, Miche," the father of two shared on Instagram alongside a smiling photo of the couple.
