Princess Diana's incredible fashion credentials may still be highly regarded today, but her dazzling beauty look isn't far behind. The forever blonde bombshell had an innate way of keeping her hair in pristine condition, no matter the occasion.
Many remember her famous, era-defining moment as her decision to give her iconic hair the chop. In the '90s, she opted to go short and voluminous, having a blunt pixie cut that would be forever synonymous with her famous name.
Diana's '90s makeover
The story behind Diana's cut is a memorable one. During a 1990 photoshoot, the royal met Sam McKnight, who quickly became her personal hairstylist until she died in 1997, when she was just 36 years old.
"For that photoshoot where we met, I gave her a fake bob thanks to a tiara," the iconic hairstylist told HOLA!. "She asked me what haircut I would give her if she gave me free rein," the stylist noted. "I told her I'd cut it very short, leave the '80s behind, and welcome the '90s. And that's what I did."
Sam famously cut her hair into the short, daring style on the shoot, and from that moment, it cemented itself in history as one of the most iconic haircuts of all time.
"When I met her, it was the end of the '80s, and she had a perm as everyone did then," Sam previously told Best Quality Designer Handbag . "She was an absolute joy. She could always put everyone at ease. The first time I met her, we didn’t know she was coming. Next thing I know, this tall leggy blonde comes bounding up the stairs and completely sets us at ease," Sam recalled.
Single Diana
Diana kept the style from then on, including during her single years after her separation from the then-Prince Charles in 1992. She experimented with the texture, often wearing it straight and blow-dried, as well as slicked back, bouffant, and bold. It was daring and defined her perhaps more 'laid-back' years of dating.
This look paved the way for many, and it's still widely requested today, with movie stars hot on her tail, including Carey Mulligan and Halle Berry.
