Taylor Swift is wholeheartedly embracing the 2016 trend as she debuted swooping bangs at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 26 – a look that nods to her hairstyle from a decade ago.
The singer's luscious locks were styled into an elegant half-up, half-dow look with face framing bangs that were swept to the side. The look was styled with a custom Wiederhoeft corseted mini dress that boasted a seafoam-green hue and silver embellishments on the bodice. Taylor completed the look with Jimmy Choo pumps and a natural, peachy makeup look that ditched her signature red lip.
Taylor's hairstyle seemed to reference her bleached bob and sideswept bangs look that she rocked to the 2016 Met Gala. For the theme of Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, Taylor wore a silver sequined Louis Vuitton dress that was adorned with a metallic snakeskin pattern, leather panels and daring side cutouts. The ensemble was completed with black high-heeled gladiator sandals.
Hairdresser Michael Douglas previously spoke to us about pulling off the bangs trend that's set to reign supreme in spring 2026. "The vast majority of people have a concave fringe that blends into layers or a graduation around the face heading down towards the jaw or chin. This creates a merging of the fringe into the rest of the hairstyle," he shared.
Michel shared that a fringe disconnected from long hair doesn't suit everybody – but it's not all about face shape. "I'm not really interested in face shapes, but more interested in the features of someone's face," he explained. "A look like this often requires dainty features, a smallish nose, and a small mouth. That said, I'm a great believer in allowing people to have what they want, so in that sense it can suit anyone - I don’t like the idea that there’s something that doesn’t suit someone. If you want it, have it!"
Easter eggs
While Taylor’s bangs appeared to channel her 2016 era, many fans speculated that the color of her dress and her muted makeup look served as an Easter egg – hinting that her next release could be a re-recording of her debut album, "Taylor Swift".
In May 2025, Taylor announced that she now owns the rights to all of her music, concert films, videos, album art, and unreleased songs. Courtesy of a letter to her fans on her website, Taylor revealed that she had bought back control of her first six albums, which had previously been acquired by Shamrock Capital.
"To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it," she penned in a letter to her fans."
"The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music. I can't thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now," she added.
