Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell has turned to an unconventional medical treatment a week after giving birth to her first child. The innovative new treatment can target fatigue and help the body "bounce back" after pregnancy, according to an expert.

Dianne, 36, recently shared an update on her post-pregnancy recovery with a selfie taken mid-appointment from inside an oxygen tank while she underwent Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). According to Dr. Mohammed Enayat, Visionary leader in longevity, GP and Founder HUM2N, the next-generation longevity clinic in London, the treatment delivers pure oxygen in a pressurised chamber for a higher level of oxygen in the body.

"That increase in oxygen can help support the body’s natural healing processes, particularly when it’s under physical stress or recovering," he explains.

Dianne had an oxygen mask over her face while she kept busy on a laptop inside the chamber. The Strictly star said the treatment was "honestly helping me so much" in a comment under a post from wellness clinic Oxydise. The company, which specialises in Red Light Therapy and HBOT for treatment at home and in clinics across the UK, highlighted that postpartum recovery is "real, demanding, and often overlooked" and suggested that oxygen therapy "supports recovery, energy and circulation."

A 30-minute consultation alone costs £150 and the price to rent a hyperbaric chamber with the company starts at a staggering £585 monthly.

Oxygen therapy can help 'bounce back' after pregnancy

Dr. Enayat explains the body goes through "a significant period of repair" after pregnancy to restore depleted energy levels and manage inflammation.

HBOT can help with "improving circulation, supporting collagen production and encouraging tissue repair, all of which are important during postnatal recovery," he says.

"For someone like Dianne, who is likely balancing physical recovery with a busy schedule, it may be a way of trying to optimise how quickly her body bounces back. That said, it’s not a routine or essential postnatal treatment," he adds, noting the evidence of the wellness benefits is an evolving science.

Dianne's first week as a mum

The professional dancer and her long-term partner Joe Sugg became first-time parents this month after welcoming their baby boy, Bowden Mark Richard Sugg, on 16 March. Joe, who met Dianne when he was partnered with her on Strictly in 2018, posted the first photos of their bub on Instagram and said he had "never felt a love like it".

Dianne chronicled her quality mother and son bonding time on social media as her baby snuggled up on her chest in an adorable selfie. "Our first weekend of many together my little Bowie," she sweetly gushed. "P.s can confirm he did not inherit my toe thumb," she jokingly added.

Meanwhile Joe got his cuddles in too as he held Bowie on his lap in another wholesome video from home. Dianne sweetly commented "my boys" with two blue heart emojis for her partner and son. After welcoming their son, Dianne revealed they had gone on walks as a new family of three and Joe had been taking care of her and their baby "so so well".

Stars who have used Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

The wellness therapy has several A-list clients, including supermodel Kendall Jenner. The Kardashians star have a tour of her wellness room, which is kitted out with her own personal hyperbaric chamber, on an episode of the reality show in 2022.

Canadian singer Justin Bieber has also been known to use a hyperbaric oxygen chamber in his wellness routine, revealing in his 2020 docuseries titled Seasons, that he sleeps in the chamber. The star uses the treatment to attempt to rid his body of toxins that he believes have been built up during several years of substance abuse.
