Elton John's husband, David Furnish, opened up about the music legend's worsening health and explained how it was impacting his ability to parent their two sons.
The 78-year-old Your Song singer contracted a severe eye infection in July 2024, leaving him blind in his right eye and with "limited vision" in his left.
He has spoken openly about being unable to see, read or watch anything since that time and has struggled to come to terms with his eyesight issues.
The star shares two sons, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, 15, and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, 13, with David, 63, who revealed Elton's recent focus has been spending as much time as possible with their children.
The Canadian entrepreneur and CEO of Rocket Entertainment explained how his husband was doing and offered an update on his health during an interview with Variety.
He revealed: "He's great. He's battling on. He's keeping busy and moving forward. He's happy being at home as a family with our sons. That's why he came off the road.
"We really love parenting, we love our family, and we love being together, and that's everything for us."
Elton's ongoing health battles
The singer publicly spoke about his blindness and eyesight struggles in November, and explained how he had been dealing with his declining health over the course of 15 months.
"It's been devastating. Because I lost my right eye and my left eye's not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven't been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything," he told the same publication.
Elton added: "I've had the most incredible life, and there is hope. I've just gotta be patient, that someday science will help me with this one. Once they help me with this one, I'll be fine. It's exactly like the AIDS situation.
"You mustn't give up hope, you must be stoic, you must be strong and you must always try and batter the door down to try and improve things."
The mega-star played his final shows in 2024 before announcing he would be taking a step back from touring to focus on family and health via an Instagram post he uploaded for his online fans.
In a lengthy caption, he shared that he would be spending the summer "recuperating at home," and that he was "feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far."
Elton has also struggled with his joints and has undergone replacement surgeries on both of his knees and his hip. Following his knee procedure, he famously made his kneecaps into bedazzled jewellery, which he wears around his neck.
