Years before David Suchet brought Agatha Christie's iconic detective, Hercule Poirot, to life, the Belgian sleuth was famously portrayed by Peter Ustinov.

The legendary actor, who died at the age of 82 in 2004, brought Poirot to life on six occasions, starring in Death on the Nile, Evil Under the Sun, Appointment with Death, Thirteen at Dinner, Dead Man's Folly and Murder in Three Acts.

However, the star also brought to life various other characters, appearing in the likes of Around the World in 80 Days, Victoria & Albert, Spartacus, Thief of Baghdad and Disney's Robin Hood, in which he provided the voices of Prince John and King Richard.

Peter's extensive career saw him become highly decorated, with the actor earning two Academy Awards, three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, a Laurel Award, a Silver Bear, a Photoplay Award, a CableACE Award, an Evening Standard British Film Award and a Grammy Award, alongside countless nominations.

However, the star's proudest achievement no doubt will be his four children, who have all followed him into the world of showbusiness. Peter shared his children with two of his wives, daughter Tamara with Isolde Denham, and Pavla, Andrea and Igor, who he shared with the Canadian actress Suzanne Cloutier.

Tamara is Peter's eldest daughter, and through his wife at the time, Isolde Denham, she is the niece of the iconic actress Angela Lansbury, who previously starred with Peter in Death on the Nile.

Tamara is also a famous actress, appearing in several horror movies in the 1970s, including The Blood on Satan's Claw and Blood from the Mummy's Tomb. She also starred in 2003's The Last Horror Movie.

However, Tamara is better known for her TV roles, and she has appeared in The Doctors, Skorpion, Grange Hill, The Ruth Rendell Mysteries and Heartstopper.

Since 1989, Tamara has been married to British actor Malcolm Rennie, who has acted in King's Royal, The Lenny Henry Show, Mr Selfridge and Heartstopper, appearing alongside his wife as Charlie Spring's grandparents.

Pavla is Peter's second daughter, and he shared her with his second wife, Suzanne Cloutier. Pavla had a brief acting career in the 1970s and early 1980s, and one of her biggest roles came when she starred alongside her father in The Thief of Baghdad.

However, she also has credits in The World's Greatest Lover, The Wild Wild West Revisited and Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen.

Reflecting on her childhood in an interview with The Telegraph in 2004, shortly after Peter's death, Pavla said: "He wasn't exactly reserved, but he was uncomfortable being open or emotional. You couldn't just walk up and ask, 'How are you?' Somehow, that seemed too direct or aggressive for him. Growing up, we weren't even supposed to call him Papa or Father. We had to call him Peter."

However, she sweetly added: "He wrote me lots of letters when I was young – wonderful letters. But he would slip them under my door at night and walk away."

Peter's third daughter was Andrea, and like her older sisters, she also became an actress. However, Andrea has mostly stayed out of the spotlight during her life.

Peter's only son is Igor, but while his sisters pursued acting, Igor instead became a sculptor and singer. During his life, he has held numerous solo exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, France and the United Kingdom.

In 1999, Peter and Igor teamed up to found the Sir Peter Ustinov Stiftung in Munich. It appears that Peter expected great things from all his children, as he once joked about Igor: "If he had decided to become a financial wizard, I would have wondered where he got it from."

In 2013, Igor pursued legal action over his late father's estate, disputing that much of it was left to Peter's third and final wife, Helene du Lau d'Allemans. Speaking after a judge dismissed his legal case, Igor said: "I was very close to my father – when he died, I was holding his hand and I felt like he had asked me to put some order into his affairs, but it has been very hard.

"Now, I'm close to bankruptcy and I don't know what to do."
