Celine Dion keeps a low profile from her home in the Henderson region of Nevada, but 10 years ago, she sold one of the most impressive homes in her portfolio under sad circumstances.
In 2016, the 'My Heart Will Go On' singer offloaded her mega mansion in Montreal, Canada, after the passing of her husband, Canadian music producer René Angélil, at 73.
Why did Celine leave her belongings in the house?
An unexpected detail in the sale of the home was that sold with many of her belongings left inside. According to reports at the time, it was designed as a "turnkey" property, meaning it would be ready for the next owner to move in straight away.
Expensive decor items like pieces of furniture, Persian rugs, linens, china, and glassware were all said to be left in the house upon Celine's departure.
Inside Celine's Montreal castle home
The house, which sold for $25.5 million to a mystery American buyer, was quite the grand affair. The property, built in the style of a French chateau, featured six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, and was situated on a private island near Laval.
Other impressive features include a spacious kitchen perfect for entertaining, a wood-panelled library with custom fireplace surround, and a high metal gate for privacy and security.
A games room and a wine cellar also contributed towards the impressive value of the home, as did the home gym with state-of-the-art equipment and calming water views.
Selling her most luxurious properties
Her Montreal mansion isn't the only opulent residence that Celine has offloaded from her repertoire. In 2017, she sold her lavish Florida home for only a portion of the original asking price. The villa, which had been on the market since 2013, originally went on sale for $72.5 million, but, in the end, the price was slashed to $45.5 million in 2016.
It was eventually sold a year later for $38.5 million. The Jupiter Island home covered 11,000 square feet and boasted three swimming pools, as well as a water park, a lazy river, and a tennis court.
There were also plenty of facilities to keep guests (and her three children, René-Charles, now 25, and twins Eddy and Nelson Angélil, now 15) busy. The home boasted a golf simulator, movie theater, and a stretch of private beach covering 100 meters.
Shortly after, she listed her Paris residence in the exclusive Villa Montmorency neighbourhood to align her life with her residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. According to French media, 'All By Myself' singer Celine and René bought their Paris pad in 2008, and it featured five bedrooms and bathrooms over four storeys.
