The Prince of Wales hasn't been skipping leg day! Greg James has praised William's "royal glutes" after completing his gruelling cycling challenge for Comic Relief.
William joined the BBC Radio 1 presenter on Tuesday, and following the completion of the challenge, Greg joked: "Very powerful legs, the royal glutes were firing on all cylinders. They really were. He was a beast on there.
"I think he's a keen cyclist anyway, and he refused to wear lycra. I mean, he's a smart man. I can't believe that happened. He really didn't need to do that. This is the thing I keep thinking about."
Greg added: "But what I love about that is that he got the message we were trying to put out, talking about safety nets and making sure that there are people to catch you if you fall. Luckily, I didn't fall off the bike with him. Otherwise, I'd have been sent to the tower. I'm really pleased that he chose to amplify that message, really. It sent the whole thing supersonic."
For his Comic Relief challenge, the 40-year-old presenter cycled 1,000km, completing the journey at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. At the time of the challenge's end, Greg had raised over £4 million for Comic Relief.
Very powerful legs, the royal glutes were firing on all cylinders. They really were. He was a beast on there.
"Four million pounds, I can barely bring myself to say it, it feels so strange," he said upon being told of the number.
William's support
William surprised Greg by joining him on his arduous journey during the Yorkshire leg of the challenge. The royal cycled with the presenter for around 40 minutes as the pair took in the south Yorkshire countryside.
Praising the radio star, William said: "What you've done is set an example about helping out. That's the thing. It's volunteering some of your time, putting yourself through a bit of pain at the same time, and supporting others.
"It's something we do very well in this country, but we don't really shout about it enough. This challenge helps everyone see that. And it's an amazing team effort. Huge well done, Greg."
After William joined the radio DJ, Greg said: "What an incredible surprise. I'd joked when I recorded a recent radio show with him that he was very welcome to turn up and do a stint on the tandem but I didn't think he'd actually call my bluff. I can't believe the impact of this daft challenge so far and it's just beyond my wildest dreams that I'd get trusted to carry the future King around on a big long tandem.
"Completely bizarre but so kind of him to spend some time amplifying our message of making sure we look after the most vulnerable people in society. He didn't have to jump on and stare at my back for 40 mins but I’m so grateful that he did. Unforgettable. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back on my bike."
He also joked: "I didn't kill the future king, William, thank you so much, that was a real, real treat."
