The Prince of Wales enjoyed a visit to Yorkshire on Monday, where he met local farmers and enjoyed a very "hearty" array of food.

William, 43, visited Crow Trees Farm in Swaledale, Hammonds Butchers, and popped into the Farmers Arms pub for lunch.

According to a post by the pub on Facebook, the future King enjoyed a delicious spread, including chicken and ham pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy – all of which gained the "royal seal of approval".

"What an incredible day here in Swaledale!" they said. "The team at the Farmers Arms were honoured to host HRH Prince William for lunch during his visit to Swaledale. It's certainly a day we will never forget."

Locals were left delighted by his surprise appearance, with one person writing: "Lovely to see him just eating like a local.....brilliant future king!!"

Another onlooker commented: "I was driving past just as he had got out of the Range Rover and did a double take… felt so chuffed to have seen him."

A princely choice of snacks!

Even after a filling lunch, Prince William still made sure to bring plenty of snacks! He brought a box of cakes with him to meet hill farmers in the Yorkshire Dales.

While the host made teas and coffees from the back of his all-terrain vehicle parked in his yard, William handed over a box of cakes bought from a local bike stop, including a brownie and a Twix cake, which he later called a "calorie grenade".

He also admitted that he had his "eye on the chocolate brownie". When asked how he takes his tea, he asked for milk and for it to be done the "Yorkshire way".

Later, William dropped into Bainbridge, a Wensleydale village, to look at a community project that generates electricity from a hydro-plant.

King Charles's unusual lunch habit

William's choice of lunch differs a lot from King Charles's choice of midday meal. The monarch famously skips lunch, a fact confirmed by Clarence House in a list of facts to mark his 70th birthday in 2018.

More recently, however, the King is believed to have started eating a light lunch, following advice from doctors and his wife, Queen Camilla.

Charles now takes "half an avocado" with him on engagements, which he has on its own, according to the Mail on Sunday.
