Prince William opens men’s suicide prevention centre in Birmingham
Prince William travelled to Birmingham to open a new James' Place centre, a men’s suicide prevention centre, to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.
The Birmingham venue is the fourth of the charity’s centres providing free therapy for men in suicidal crisis, following successful programmes in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.
While opening their London centre in 2022, William said: "The one takeaway for me is the idea that there is a solution...
“I think men sometimes get so lost in the detail, they forget the bigger picture and being able to have that bit of support that can move them forward and there is hope and a brighter future.”
James’ Place was founded in memory of James Wentworth-Stanley, Cressida Bonas' husband Harry Wentworth-Stanley's late brother, who took his own life in 2006 at age 21.
NSPN networking
In October 2025, James’ Place became one of five founding partners of the new National Suicide Prevention Network (NSPN), established by The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales.
During the visit, William will meet fellow partners of the network, including Papyrus, MindOUT, and The National Suicide Prevention Alliance (NSPA), to share key learnings.
"How nationally can you do it? I'm afraid I'm looking to you guys as the leading experts now in this case," he said, adding: "The sky is the ceiling."

Prince William's unexpected fake name he used to go undetected at university
Prince William is one of the most high-profile members of the British royal family and will one day step into the role of King. But like many young people eager to spread their wings after school, he was keen to enjoy university life away from the spotlight.
After taking a gap year, William, now 43, attended the University of St Andrews in Scotland between 2001 and 2005. He initially enrolled to study Art History before later switching to Geography, and it was there that he met his future wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales.
Throughout his time at St Andrews, William managed to live relatively under the radar – helped in part by an agreement between the university and the British press not to publish paparazzi photographs or intrusive stories about the young royal.
Read more about it, including his fake name, here.
King Charles' living conditions that led to 'constant battle' with Queen Camilla

Annabel speaks openly about her royal sister and brother-in-law's playful behaviour at home in an extract taken from royal expert Robert Hardman's book, Charles III New King. New Court. The Inside Story.
Away from the regalities of royal life, it seems the King and Queen are just like any married couple, enjoying takeaways and taking part in petty arguments, such as the monarch's "compulsive window-opening" at Clarence House.
See what she had to say here.

Rod Stewart jokes with the King
The King faced a tricky moment in his second line-up of the night as Sir Rod Stewart raised the issue of his recent trip to the United States, telling the monarch of President Trump: "You put that little rat bag in his place.'
The singer said: "Hello Sir. May I say well done in the Americas. You were superb. Absolutely superb. You put that little rat bag in his place."
The King’s reply was indistinct apart from a subsequent mention later in the conversation of "yes exactly", as Rod replied: "It went right over his head."
