Queen Camilla met some very cute dogs on Tuesday

Logging on for afternoon duties! It's dog day at HELLO! HQ, so it was fitting to see Queen Camilla attending a Clarence House reception to celebrate Medical Detection Dogs.

While we cope with excitable pups scampering all over our office, the queen dismissed any doubters by emphasizing to attendees -including James Middleton, the brother of the Princess of Wales - the life-saving work that these canines can do.

During the event, she observed a demonstration where Jodie, a golden Labrador being trained for a new bowel cancer detection squad, accurately identified positive samples of the disease on two separate occasions.

The Queen greeted James Middleton with a warm kiss on both cheeks, expressing how wonderful it was to see him again. The brother of the Princess of Wales, who owns the dog food company Ella & Co, supports Medical Detection Dogs by donating treats for their training programs.

"It’s lovely that you are supporting them, you are doing some feed for them aren't you?"she said. "Yes, treats," explained Mr Middleton.

"I’m really fortunate to be involved. I’m mind-blown by what they do. It’s incredible. We can learn from dogs as much as they learn from us." "It's incredible," Camilla agreed.

The Queen has served as Patron of Medical Detection Dogs since 2014, championing the charity's efforts to train both Bio Detection and Medical Alert Assistance Dogs to identify the microscopic scent markers associated with various illnesses.

Medical Alert Assistance Dogs provide a lifeline for individuals managing severe, complex conditions like Type 1 diabetes, PoTS, and extreme allergies by warning them before a life-threatening medical crisis occurs, preventing hospitalisation.

Meanwhile, Bio Detection Dogs work with samples in a controlled laboratory setting to identify illnesses such as cancer, Parkinson's, Covid-19, malaria, and bacterial infections, with the ultimate goal of revolutionizing widespread medical screening alongside helping individual patients.

"There have been a lot of sceptical people who have been transformed by what they have seen," the queen said.

Consultant oncologist Alan Makepeace, who works as an advisor to the charity, said he had arrived as a sceptic but was now a convert. "The old adage seeing is believing is very powerful. As a consultant oncologist I was a sceptic. Shame on me," he noted.

What lies ahead for Princess Charlotte?

Charlotte has always been "fairly comfortable" in front of the cameras

Emily Nash, HELLO!'s Royal Editor, reveals that Charlotte has always been "fairly comfortable" in front of the cameras and will no doubt be a perfect ambassador for the crown when she grows up.

"Even as a little girl visiting a newborn Prince Louis for the first time, she had a ready wave," she says. "Her parents are introducing their children to the spotlight in a careful and controlled way, and she seems to be taking these occasional forays into public life in her stride so far."

"It seems that Charlotte has inherited her natural ability. Like her brothers, she has been brought up spending plenty of time outdoors and has no doubt had lots of practice at Lambrook, which offers an all-weather surface cricket pitch."

"This baby will be born into very different family dynamics to those experienced by his or her older siblings," Emily says. "While their grandmother and grandfather have spent plenty of time with August and Ernest, they are likely to keep more of a distance this time around, although I’m sure Sarah will find it very hard to stay away from a new grandchild."
