Musical moment
King Charles and Queen Camilla kicked off a three-day tour of Northern Ireland with a lively welcome in Belfast, where they danced, played drums, and sampled local whiskey.
The trip, conducted under tight security, began at the historic Thompson Dock, where they had a go at playing traditional bodhran drums while watching dancers perform to mark Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann coming to Belfast this August. The monarch appeared particularly enthused by the instrument - although he needed a quick lesson in how to play it.
Their Majesties were greeted by over 200 performers to celebrate Belfast hosting Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann this coming August. As the world's largest festival of traditional Irish music, song, and dance, its arrival in the capital marks a historic milestone expected to draw thousands of global visitors and highlight the region's rich heritage.
The royal couple walked through a welcoming lineup of local schoolchildren playing traditional instruments like harps and whistles, following an instrumental rendition of "I’ll Tell Me Ma." The event also highlighted Belfast’s growing ethnic diversity, featuring dance groups representing Polish, Mexican, and Multi-Ethnic Sports and Culture Northern Ireland (MSCNI) communities."
King Charles shared a warm embrace with Tendai Nyamayaro, a 38-year-old Belfast resident originally from Zimbabwe. "The King’s got rhythm! He did have some rhythm!" Mr. Nyamayaro joked afterward. "What a beautiful thing to have happened. Showing up to celebrate our different cultures here in Belfast... The people are lovely, so friendly and welcoming."
School visit
A keen canine lover, Queen Camilla looked delighted as she gave Tilly the dog a cuddle during a visit to Fane Street Primary School in Belfast. King Charles's wife also chatted to five-year-old pupil Tawnie during the very special engagement.

The royal visit will wrap up with a special school assembly. Her Majesty will join the student body to view a showcase of their recent achievements in literacy, performance, and the arts. Before departing, the Queen will meet with individual students, hand out a select number of awards, and unveil a plaque to commemorate her visit.
Prince Edward speaks out about late father's legacy
Prince Edward has discussed his late father Prince Philip's legacy in a new interview. Established in 1956 by the late Duke of Edinburgh and educational pioneer Kurt Hahn, the programme helps young people develop essential life and work skills outside of the classroom. The youth development scheme challenges youngsters aged between 14 and 24 to learn new skills, get outside, take part in adventures and conduct volunteer work, prioritising self-improvement rather than competing against others
"The award's been around for 70 years. People perpetually say, is it still relevant? And actually, I think it's becoming more relevant by the year. The actual framework hasn't changed at all but because young people choose the activities, that's constantly changing, it's evolving all the time. We don't have to change it.
"But actually, in this increasingly technological world, the importance of human skills, the emotional intelligence and the confidence and the ability to make the right decisions... These sorts of skills are even more important today. It's the same message coming from all these employers, how do we do this? And what the DoE is saying is that we can."
