Duchess Sophie's evening out
Last night, the Duchess of Edinburgh was at One Marylebone in London for a Orbis eye care charity event. It was the company's fourth annual Visionaries reception, and the royal was there partaking in a live demonstration of the charity’s virtual reality training technology, developed in partnership with Fundamental XR. The experience demonstrated how simulation allows eye care professionals to practise sight-saving surgery.
Previously, Sophie has travelled to Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and India to see the charities work in her role as Global Ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.
The Duchess said: "I have seen people dancing and praising God and in tears over a simple operation that will change their lives. I've travelled the world with Orbis and seen what they do on board the Flying Eye Hospital, but also the trainings they do virtually and in hospitals as well. It's a wonderful trickle effect."

King Charles arrives for St Paul's ceremony
King Charles has arrived for the service of the Order of St Michael and St George at St Paul's Cathedral, wearing a blue ceremonial cloak.
The Service of Dedication and Commemoration is typically held at St Paul’s Cathedral every four years and this marks Charles' first as King.
It is a ceremony to recognise outstanding service by those working overseas.
Charles was met with a fanfare of state trumpeters and then he was greeted by the Right Honourable Lady Mayor of the City of London, Dame Susan Langley.
Charles was then welcomed inside by the Duke of Kent, who is Grand Master of the Order.

Rania's hike
Queen Rania Al Abdullah visited the village of Saham Al Kafarat in the governorate of Irbid on Wednesday, where she joined a group of local young men and women for a hike in a scenic area overlooking the Yarmouk River.
During the hike, Her Majesty spoke with a number of local tourism activists who shared their experiences in promoting nature tourism spots in the Jordanian countryside. The Queen also met with members of the local community, who spoke to her about their initiatives.
Her Majesty’s visit to Saham Al Kafarat comes as part of ongoing efforts to support local tourism by raising awareness of the country’s unique travel destinations. Earlier this year, she visited Wadi Rum, where she aimed to highlight the diversity of Jordan’s touristic offerings.
Royal throwback
Princess Charlene always pulls out all the stops at an evening gala, but in 2011, the wife of Prince Albert wore a mermaid dress that has since been forgotten.
The princess, who was a pro swimmer in her pre-royal life, made an appearance alongside her husband at the Formula One Gala Dinner at the Monaco Sporting events venue and looked like a goddess in a bronzed gold maxi gown featuring a boat neckline and fit-and-flare skirt that pooled around her feet.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of public order and weapon offences near Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s home on the Sandringham Estate following reports the former prince was threatened while walking his dogs.

Queen of glamour
The Queen has been given the fan from her official coronation portrait to commemorate her historic crowning.
Camilla opened The Fan Museum’s new Monarchy exhibition in Greenwich, south-east London, on Thursday as part of her role as its patron.
She revealed how she could not wait to see the specially-made creation, describing it as “so beautiful” and saying she would use it on “special occasions”.
It features the Queen’s favourite flowers, butterflies, and her birthday star constellation, as well as a dragon fly which represents George and the Dragon.
The visit took place the day after the third anniversary of the King and Queen’s coronation which saw the monarch and his consort crowned and anointed in a deeply religious ceremony in Westminster Abbey on May 6 2023.
Camilla had also given the museum some fans from her own collection, which she remarked left “a few little spaces” back at Clarence House.
Barefoot Lilibet
Princess Lilibet has the most adorable bond with her elder brother, Prince Archie, and we have the proof.
In a sweet family photo shared by the Duchess of Sussex to mark Archie's seventh birthday on Wednesday, the barefoot sibling duo were pictured holding hands while enjoying time together on the beach.
"7 years later…happy birthday to our sweet boy," Meghan penned in the caption, alongside another photo showing Archie as a tiny baby in his father, Prince Harry's, arms.
One thing that couldn't go unnoticed in the update was the brother-sister duo's striking red hair, which shone brilliantly under the beating rays of the Californian sunshine.
While it hasn't been confirmed how the Sussexes marked Archie's big day overseas, no doubt his adoring family will have made the day incredibly special.
