Congratulations are in order for Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, better known online as the "hot equerry", who has welcomed his first child with his wife, Olivia.

The duo, who married in May 2025, welcomed a baby girl named Theodora on May 20, 2026, as announced in the births section of The Times. The name derives from Greek, meaning "gift from God".

Jonny was previously married to marketing manager Caroline Thompson and welcomed a son with her, but the pair split in 2022

The happy news comes just weeks after King Charles' equerry was thrust back into the spotlight following his visit to the US with the monarch.

During the fifth annual King's Trust Gala in May in NYC, lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart shared a photo of Jonny taken at the event, bringing him back into the online conversation. "Can't believe I got this close to the 'hot equerry' Johnny Thompson, aide de camp to His Majesty, the King," she captioned the snap.

"We actually spoke while waiting for King Charles to get to us for a few words," she added. "Totally charming, completely cool, exceedingly handsome."

Jonny was first dubbed the "hot equerry" in 2022, shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, when videos of him began to circulate online. Public interest grew after Charles' coronation the following year, and he reportedly transitioned into a less public-facing role as he became uncomfortable with the media attention.

Jonny is a member of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, and previously worked as the late Queen's most senior bodyguard. He then transitioned to become a Super Equerry to Charles. Jonny joined the army in 2006, aged 22, and has steadily worked his way up the ranks.

His role as an equerry to King Charles means that he is responsible for the planning and execution of the monarch's daily duties, and he was selected thanks to a long tradition of royals picking their equerries from the senior officers of the British Army.

He returned to the zeitgeist in late May 2026 after he was spotted chatting and laughing with Lady Louise Windsor, the eldest child of Prince Edward. The duo attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where Louise was working.

Jonny announced his engagement to his PR executive partner, Olivia Lewis, in October 2024. "The engagement is announced between Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Lewis OBE of Primrose Hill, London."

They then tied the knot in May 2025 in St Mary's church in Wiltshire, before hosting a lunch and reception at Olivia's parents' house. Olivia is the daughter of Simon Lewis, a former communications secretary to Queen Elizabeth, who later worked as the director of communications for former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Jonny was previously married to marketing manager Caroline Thompson and welcomed a son with her, yet the pair split in 2022.
