Kate Hudson comes from a showbiz family, so it's no surprise the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree, with her children poised to follow in her footsteps. First up to continue her family's legacy in the spotlight is her son, Ryder.
The 22-year-old is looking to pursue a career in acting after he completed college this year. Kate opened up about her son's future aspirations during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight.
"Oh yeah," replied the Oscar-winning actress after she was asked whether her son wants to become an actor. "He’s graduating from college this year, can't believe it, so exciting," she shared. "I think he’s the first in like three generations to graduate from college."
Ryder is set to graduate from New York University, where he attends performing arts school, in May. Kate explained that her eldest son is dedicated to the craft and "wants to be doing good work". "He’s really focusing on college, he’s not trying to get in front of the camera just to get in front of a camera," she explained.
"I think when you grow up in our family … you gotta understand the craft and believe it in a different way if you’re gonna do it," Kate added.
Aside from acting Ryder's other passions include designing and building furniture as well as playing the guitar in the alternative rock band The Codependence. "And I thought, 'Wow, you’re so cool.' And he's fantastic," Kate gushed over her son.
Kate welcomed Ryder when she was just 24 and married to Chris Robinson, the lead singer for the Black Crowes. The pair were married from 2000 to 2007. The Song Sung Blue actress also has two other children: Bingham, who she shares with ex-fiancée Matt Bellamy, and Rani Rose, who she shares with her current fiancée Danny Fujikawa.
Ryder recently appeared in Netflix's Running Point alongside his mom, and in the short film, Sweet Tooth.
This isn't the first time Kate has spoken about her son's destiny for the spotlight. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she revealed her eldest child is the entertainer of the family. "Ryder – I mean, he's clearly gonna probably follow in the footsteps of the family. And I would say he's probably the funniest in our family. So, this is like every day for me. Nobody makes me laugh like Ryder, and he just constantly makes fun of me," she shared.
