Meet 80s star Molly Ringwald’s 3 children – including actress daughter who starred alongside Anne Hathaway

Mathilda Gianopoulos is the oldest child of Molly Ringwald and husband Panio Gianopoulos. Molly's eldest has seemingly inherited her mother’s star power, starring alongside Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in age-gap romance The Idea of You as well as the 2025 14-minute short Graduation Day which charts the journey of a high school senior as he navigates growing up, identity and a long-term crush.

The 22-year-old was conceived in a (suitably glamorous) “dressing room at Studio 54”, according to mother Molly Ringwald, and born on October 22 2003. Her middle name comes from the Greek tradition of naming a firstborn child after the father’s parents. Instead, the couple opted for Ereni as a middle name.

The Breakfast Club actress announced she was expecting twins at the age of 40 in 2009 and told People magazine that, following the birth of her oldest daughter, “I had some things fixed (fibroid removal) that made it easier to get pregnant again.” The sixteen-year-old fraternal twin is named after Molly’s mother.

Speaking to Radio Andy in 2021, Ringwald explained that she’s hesitant to show her films to her younger children. She described Adele as “the most woke individual that you’ve ever met. I just don’t know how I’m gonna go through that, you know, watching [my films] with her.”

Roman Stylianos was born just three minutes after his fraternal sister, though a breech birth made things more difficult. Her 11-hour labour resulted in the doctor grabbing Roman by the foot, she explained to People, and pulling him out. “Adele had hogged a lot of the oxygen in the blood so right away Roman needed a little more attention, the actress explained. 

The 16-year-old made his debut at New York Fashion Week in February 2025, modelling on the catwalk for Lingua Franca. His outfit featured a black graphic t-shirt and corduroy shorts. His actress mother was there to support and model alongside her son in a striped mini-dress and floral cardigan from the collection.

The actress reportedly met her second husband Panio Gianopoulos in the early 2000s via mutual friends in an online literary group. After exchanging emails back and forth, they arranged to meet in person – the perfect meet-cute for the actress and former book-editor Panio. He currently works as a writer across fiction, non-fiction, short stories and essays.

The couple's first date involved a unique combination of martial arts moves (Panio is a black belt in karate) and homemade tzatziki which was clearly the right recipe for romance as the couple married in 2007 in a private ceremony. Molly was previously married to Valéry Lameignère from 1999 to 2002.

Molly Ringwald has become synonymous with 1980s coming-of-age classics like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, but she clearly wants a different path for her kids. Speaking to Marc Macron on his podcast WTF in 2024, Molly discussed being “taken advantage of” on set. The actress explained, “It can be harrowing. I have a 20-year-old daughter now who is going into the same profession, even though I did everything I could to convince her to do something else. And it’s hard.”

The actress has since starred in teen rom-com The Kissing Booth, Netflix’s Riverdale and acclaimed TV drama The Bear.
