Jim Carrey's appearance at the 51st César Awards in Paris on February 26 certainly caused quite the stir online!
The actor, 64, arrived at the ceremony to accept the Honorary César Award, even making his public debut with his partner Min Ah for the occasion, but that didn't stop social media from going completely abuzz.
Several netizens believed that the actor looked "unrecognizable," going so far as to suggest that it was a clone of him at the ceremony. Celebrity makeup and prosthetics artist Alexis Stone even jokingly claimed that he was the one who went to the ceremony as Jim.
But, in response to the many theories, a rep for the actor simply told HELLO!: "Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award," confirming that there's no truth to the rumor mill.
But who is Alexis Stone?
That hasn't stopped many Instagram fans of prominent drag performer and internet personality Alexis from actually wondering whether he was the one at the ceremony, though.
"Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris," he captioned a pair of photos of the Ace Ventura star at the ceremony, alongside an image of a prosthetic mask. "I can't handle any more stress right now I need to know if this is real," Megan Fox commented, with Lisa Rinna adding: "You blow me away," with singer Mae Muller also saying: "Someone needs to confirm I'm going mental omg."
Elliot Joseph Rentz is a performance artist who goes by the drag name/persona "Alexis Stone," boasting 1.4 million followers on Instagram alone, including the likes of Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Heidi Klum, Penélope Cruz, and many more.
His hyper-realistic prosthetic work most often parodies celebrity appearances and has ranged from Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil, Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire, Donatella Versace, and even Jack Nicholson at a Balenciaga fashion show in Paris.
"It's really interesting that with just a little bit of trickery, you can convince the masses that you're not only somebody else, that you come from a completely different world of life," he once told the New York Times, adding of his work: "It was never wanting to be this beautiful woman. I wanted to be unrecognizable."
Jim Carrey's life and career
The star of The Mask maintains a relatively private life now, eschewing social media and public appearances in recent years. His relationship with Min Ah was only made public at the César ceremony, where he called her his "sublime companion."
His last film appearance was in 2024's Sonic the Hedgehog 3, reprising his role as Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. While he hasn't explicitly retired, he did announce his intention at that movie's premiere to take it easy with his acting career, although expressed in an interest in continuing with the Sonic franchise.
