Every time a star sets foot on the red carpet is cause for celebration. But the first time a celeb makes an appearance at the Oscars, as a host, nominee or plus one, is surely a memorable moment in their lives. As the famed awards show creeps closer, we're taking a look back at a few celebs' red carpet debuts, charting the changes to their careers and wardrobes since.

Angelina Jolie, 1986/2014
Nobody does glamorous dressing like Angelina Jolie and it seems to be something of a natural talent, dating back to Angelina's debut on the Oscars' red carpet at just 10 years old.
Jolie first appeared at the Academy Awards for their 58th ceremony, accompanying her father Jon Voight who was nominated for Best Actor that year. The actress went on to win her own Oscar for Girl, Interrupted and has been a regular ever since. Though she's swapped white ruffles for gently draped sequins, Angelina has always made a red carpet-worthy statement.

Michelle Yeoh, 2001/2025
Michelle Yeoh made history when she won an Oscar for Best Actress in Everything Everywhere All At Once and stole the screen in Crazy Rich Asians. But 20 years prior to her win, she made her debut at the 73rd Academy Awards, presenting the prize for Best Visual Effects. The same year, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, in which Michelle stars, won four awards out of 10 nominations.

Julia Roberts, 1990/2014
Not many celebrities could be recognised by just their smile, but Julia Roberts has always been an exception. Her megawatt grin and enviable hair have been gracing our screens for decades.
The actress first attended the red carpet with her then-fiancé Kiefer Sutherland in 1990 at just 22 years old. Following her Steel Magnolias nomination that year, Julia was nominated for Pretty Woman in 1991 and 10 years later won for Erin Brockovich.

Laura Dern, 1992/2025
Actress Laura Dern received her first nomination at just 25 years old for her role in Rambling Rose at the 64th Academy Awards in 1992. Twenty years later, she was nominated for Wild and finally got her well-deserved win for Marriage Story in 2020. Just as well-dressed as she was in 1992, Laura opted for a less-glitzy but just as timeless silhouette in 2025.

Gwyneth Paltrow, 1994/2015
She might now be known for her iconic Goop wellness brand, but at 21 Gwyneth Paltrow debuted on the red carpet. Her simple, strapless silver dress was swapped for a pale pink gown five years later when the actress won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love. She returned to the shade in 2015 for her most recent appearance on the red carpet to date.

Halle Berry, 1996/2025
Halle Berry won Best Actress for Monster's Ball in 2002, six years after her first Oscars red carpet, and made history as the first woman of colour to win the award.
For 30 years, the actress has been a stylish addition to the Academy Awards, from her first lavender gown to dazzling silver. The Catwoman actress most recently appeared on the red carpet in 2025, almost three decades after her debut.

Kate Winslet, 1996/2016
In 1996, Kate Winslet made her first steps on the red carpet at just 20 years old when she was nominated for Sense and Sensibility.
In the 20 years that followed her role in the Jane Austen classic, Kate was nominated seven times and won for her role in The Reader. The Titanic actress has remained a beloved presence onscreen and as largely an attendee ever since.

Renée Zellweger, 1999/2020
Miss Bridget Jones herself, Renée Zellweger appeared at the Academy Awards in 1999 for the first time to introduce one of the Best Song performances.
She returned as a nominee for Bridget Jones's Diary in 2002 and again for Chicago in 2003. The next year she won for her role in Cold Mountain and then over a decade-and-a-half later for the titular role in Judy (2020). The Texan actress remains a favourite for her comedic and dramatic skill, as well as for her fashion sense which has seen her through over two decades of appearances.
