Barry Manilow shared an update on his cancer journey with fans on social media, after he was forced to reschedule several arena tour shows in February to recover from surgery. The 82-year-old was diagnosed with stage one lung cancer in December 2025, after he began to suffer from lengthy bouts of bronchitis, and doctors discovered a cancerous spot during an MRI.
"Hi everyone, Barry Manilow here. Well, looks like I made it and I look fabulous, right?" Barry said in a video posted to Instagram, as he sported a green jacket and a black button-up shirt.
"You know, with everything that's going on in the world, I wanted to check in and share some good news. In fact, it's great news," he continued, before adding that his latest single, "Once Before I Go", had hit the top 10 in the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts.
"How do you like that?" the singer declared. "Like my grandmother once said, next thing you know, they'll be walking on the moon." Barry then went on to address his recovery and to thank fans for the love as he worked to reschedule his arena shows from February.
"I also want to say thank you [to] all of you for your messages of support in these last couple of months," he said. "It's been a long ride, and since I have no patience, it's been agony, but I am getting stronger, and I have great doctors and wonderful friends and family, but I am so looking forward to getting back on stage."
He added that his new album, What A Time, would be coming soon, and that he couldn't wait to share new music with fans.
"Here's to another century of making music together, my friends," the star concluded. Fans took to the comment section to share their support, with one writing: "You look incredibly healthy, Barry!!! I love it when good things happen to good people!!!" while another added: "Congratulations Barry! So happy to see you up and about. Here's to continued healing. Love you!"
Barry was forced to delay the arena tour shows that fell between February 27 and March 17, as his doctors advised him against returning to the stage after he underwent surgery to remove the cancerous spot on his lungs in late December.
He shared the news via social media in January, admitting that he had returned from a "depressing" visit to the doctor. "I told him that I have been using the treadmill three times a day (I have) but that I still couldn't sing more than three songs in a row before I had to stop," Barry recalled.
"But I was sure that I would be able to do the arena shows in a few weeks. He shook his head. He looked at me, and then he looked at the floor."
"He said, 'Barry, you won't be ready to do a 90-minute show. Your lungs aren't ready yet. You're in great shape considering what you've been through, but your body isn't ready. You shouldn't do the first arena shows. You won't make it through."
The "Copacabana" singer reassured fans that he would likely be able to perform his arena tour shows in late March and April as planned.
