Sebastian was born in the Bahamas and then his family moved to Ontario. He got his start singing in his church choir at the young age of eight.
At 14 he tried out for the group Kid Wikkid and got to join the band. In 1987, Skid Row's lead singer Matt Fallon exited the group, and the band was in need of a vocalist.
Jon Bon Jovi's parents noticed Sebastian as he was singing during Mark Weiss' wedding, and they were the ones to suggest he reach out to the group for the role.
He auditioned for the band and became its lead vocalist the same year. Sebastian went on to join other bands such as Triumph, and The Last Hard Men.
He also debuted his solo project Bring 'Em Bach Alive! and he made his Broadway debut in Jekyll and Hyde. Sebastian also served as the host of VH1's Forever Wild.

The group's popularity rose in the late 1980s and early 1990s. During that time they released their albums Skid Row, Slave to the Grind and Subhuman Race.
Sebastian was fired in 1996 due to creative rifts and disagreements with fellow band members. The group opened for the Kiss Farewell Tour in 2000; however Sebastian was not present.
