DC fans, are you ready to meet your new Supergirl?
This week, Milly Alcock stepped out in her super hero best for CinemaCon in Las Vegas, donning a blue sweater with a Chanel logo inside the signature Superman diamond.
The Australian actress was joined by her Supergirl co-star Jason Momoa as well as Supergirl director Craig Gillespie and DC Studios executive Peter Safran. Here's what you need to know about the new Kara Zor-El.
She's from Australia
Milly, 26, was born in April 2000 and raised in the Sydney suburb of Petersham. In a 2020 interview with Vogue Australia, she said at the time she had no plans of packing up for Hollywood just yet — though she was practicing her American accent just in case — and was still living at home with her two younger brothers.
She noted that her family was more the sporty kind than creative, sharing: "I think I got my interest in acting because everybody was uninterested in acting … I grew up in a predominantly rugby union household; it doesn't make any sense."
She made her screen debut in a 2014 episode of Australian show Wonderland, and four years later she dropped out of Newtown High School of the Performing Arts when she was cast in the Foxtel comedy-drama Upright.
Where you know her from
Milly's breakout in the U.S. is undoubtedly the Game of Thrones prequel series The House of the Dragon, which premiered in 2022, and in which she starred as Rhaenyra Targaryen opposite Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower.
She also recently starred in the star-studded Netflix limited series Sirens, in which she starred as the cunning Simone DeWitt, opposite Meghann Fahy, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Camp, among others.
Her role in Supergirl
Speaking with Vanity Fair in March, Milly opened up about playing such a huge role within such a passionate fandom for the second time. "It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on. We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women's bodies," she said of anticipating backlash. "I can't really stop them. I can only be myself."
"Not every film is for everyone. The beauty of art is that you can be selective," she added. Supergirl is out in June.
Her personal life
In June 2025, Milly, who lives in London, hard-launched on Instagram her boyfriend, London-based chef Joseph "Jo" Powell in June 2025 by sharing an image of him wearing an "I Love My Girlfriend" shirt.
She and Jo, who operates Schoolnights Ltd, a London-based food project, made their first major red carpet appearance together at the 2026 BAFTAs on February 22, 2026.
