Suri Cruise celebrated her 20th birthday on April 18 and is likely to have marked the occasion with her mother, Katie Holmes, with the pair sharing a close relationship.
The actress welcomed her daughter on April 18, 2006, in Los Angeles with then-husband Tom Cruise. The actress admitted to ELLE UK in 2019 that she was "happy" to welcome Suri at the age of 27, saying that their ages are "a good match."
"I was happy to become a mom in my twenties," she shared. "It's been nice that our ages fit … how do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together."
According to Celebrity New Worth, Suri boasts a fortune of $500,000 at the age of 20. Tom has not been publicly seen with his daughter since 2013. Suri is studying at Carnegie Mellon University, and is thought to be majoring in a creative subject. The School of Design which offers a variety of subjects and is suitable for students with interests ranging from graphic designers, illustrators, animators, fashion designers, and artists, all housed under one department. Her sophomore year at college began on August 26 following a summer break spent with her mom in New York.
It has been previously reported that Tom will pay the annual tuition fee of $65,000 after agreeing to cover all of Suri's schooling following his and Katie's 2012 divorce after six years of marriage.
Katie was granted full custody of their daughter in the split, with the divorce settlement also stating that Tom had to pay $400,000 a year in child support payments, as well as all of Suri's "medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs."
The child support payments ended once Suri turned 18 and was no longer living with her mother, but Tom is "fulfilling his obligation" by continuing to pay for her education.
Ahead of her daughter's college departure, Katie told Town & Country: "You want them to stay with you forever, but they're these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need – and then they're going to go. And that's going to be very, very sad for me," she said.
"I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I'm really proud of her and I’m happy. I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that."
