Kathleen starred opposite '80s heartthrob Michael Douglas in 1984 jungle adventure Romancing the Stone, which remains one of her best-known roles. The actress stars as romance novelist Joan Wilder who travels to Colombia to ransom her kidnapped sister.
Just two years later, she worked opposite Nicolas Cage in Peggy Sue Got Married, the time-travelling romance that sent Peggy back to 1960 to correct her path to an unhappy marriage.
As filming for Romancing the Stone was wrapping up, Kathleen met property developer Jay Weiss, explaining: "He found me an apartment, and to thank him I took him to lunch.”
They tied the knot on 4 August 1984, welcoming their daughter Rachel in 1987. The couple eventually divorced two decades later in 2007.

Kathleen's daughter has inherited her mother's love for creativity, studying music at Hampshire College, releasing debut album Dear Lovein 2012 and acting in 1989 film Little Monsters alongside Ben Savage and brother Fred Savage.
The actress keeps her followers updated on her day-to-day life via Instagram and has expressed a wish to keep performing onstage, writing on her Backstage profile that she hopes to perform Shakespeare outside of private events.
