Katie Holmes added a 1920s-inspired twist to her sartorial agenda this week, as she stepped out in black gown courtesy of Lanvin Winter 2026 that oozed flapper-girl style. The actress graced the red carpet at Carnegie Hall's Concert of The Century Gala for its 50th anniversary.

The star wore a black sleeveless dress that featured a velvet bodice that fell elegantly into an asymmetric fringe midi skirt. The tassels moved gracefully as Katie walked the red carpet and the garment was styled with silver bejewelled pumps.

Katie's lighter-hued locks were styled into soft waves with a middle parting while her makeup exuded glam, courtesy of a fresh complexion with a berry-toned lip. HELLO!'s Fashion News Editor, Laura Sutcliffe, offered her expert take on the look.

"Katie's latest outfit is a modern, almost subtle take on the 1920s flapper girl look," she shared. "The delicate yet eye-catching fringing from the drop waist of the dress adds interest to an otherwise classic little black dress."

The fringe trend

The actress' little black dress is bang on trend for this season, with fringing peppering the runway along with the street style set. A far cry from the festival-coded fringe that we've spotted at the likes of Coachella festival – think 2016 – these tassels rather adorn the cuffs and hems of skirts and dresses with sophistication. They appear as silky tendrils for a twist on an otherwise streamlined silhouette.

Tassels are synonymous with the 1920s, where flapper dresses swished through jazz clubs. Fast-forward to the 1970s, the look was reinvented with a bohemian edge, with the detailing embroidered onto suede jackets and shoulder bags.

However, 2025 saw a resurgence of the stylish accent on the runway. The likes of Loewe, Balmain, Bottega, Ferragamo, and Dolce & Gabbana all layered subtle fringe over their garments.

Katie Holmes' fashion

While tassels are a new addition to Katie's style set, the actress has kept with her love for a monochromatic ensemble. In April, she stepped out for the AAFA American Image Awards 2026 at Gotham Hall in New York City.

Katie wore a sleek black blazer with glossy lapels and intricate pocket detailing, paired with matching straight-leg tailored trousers. The blazer was left open to reveal a plunging black corset beneath that added a risqué twist to the refined look.

Katie accessorized with pointed-toe black boots and a diamond-encrusted choker necklace that shimmered with amber hues.
